This is (Part 1) a Honda Element engine replacement and restoration. To say this video is packed with information would be an understatement. In addition to replacing the engine and going from an automatic transmission to a manual transmission, I also recondition the lower control arms and the valve cover. If you want to learn all about Elements and what they’re like on the inside, watch this video.
This information also applies to CRV’s of the same vintage.

Powder coating can be easily burned off with an acetylene torch. When I say easily, I mean you can call it 'flash-ash'. It instantly flash burns where you're barely even heating the part. It's fun too 😀
I always put bushings (and other parts) in the freezer first for an hour or 2. It really can help with installation! 😀
If i buy a 2003 honda element would u be able to fully restore it for me pretty please the whole front is smashed in all the way around
So amazing. Wish you lived close. Have 2 Elements.
I'm watching you fumble with those berrings and I'm thinking il just order new control arms with bushings pre installed😮
On the bushings, had same problem, found its easier to change the whole control arm, I don't think at the time it was that much more expensive(Whoops!! Wrote comment before watching entire segment)
what control arms do you recommend, OEM?
I have a question. Can u recommend a professional in SoCal? I need my engine either REBUILT or REPLACED. And several other little odds and ends, I basically want to REJUVENATE my 2004 EX. ??? Thank u in advance…
Hi Eric. How do you keep track of the parts removed I.e. bolts, etc. How to put them back correctly
Press F to a guy who lost his 10mm 💀
ETCG = #1
If you find me a Honda element tha would be great I used to have one with over 165000 sol# i .Biggest mistake Is ever regret andb
I want to make a rePair class
Teach these kids basic maintenance! And repair
How do you remember where all those bolts go back to?
The owner had said he took it to get the oil changed then got it back and had the engine lose all power , can you say , drain and no refill then drive it back to then remember by the service tech , we have no oil , “hurry , put some in and act normal “.
About to attempt this whole entire process without a lift wish me luck🤞
Eric great work shop looking great keep up da excellent work,, honda guy,,, 👌
i miss you 🙁
I like videos like this for my element. It’s a project that I will never ever do, especially by myself. But it just gives me a better idea of my car. I am someone that just replaced the whole suspension, all the fluids, and then some purely off of YouTube videos. It’s been a long couple months but I feel as tho I’m about done with work on my element!
“I’m a quick oil change place” 😂 that got me 🤣
I wonder if sacraficial zinc would help .Works with boat engines!
There is an old (4yrs.) Scotty K. video where he changes an Element starter from the top.He said that was the way to go if you are not working with a lift.CHEERS from Canadian westcoast!
Can you make a video about the automatic transmission swap on Honda element without dropping the engine ? Thanks!
I work at the company that powder coated the valve covers. In fact, all Honda valve covers and manifold covers from midway through the ULEV on. That particular powder had a lot of stainless flakes in it. There was a change from PPG to Akzo powder suppliers… can't recall when that took place though.
I've run into the same bushing issue before and yeah, it sucks money wise but just not having to fight installing bushes is worth it..and if you're going to install metal on metal go ahead and use a tiny coat of oil before pressing them in.
Don’t they sell both LC arms for like $99 on Amazon? Nm i fished the video lol 😂
How much you got that for again?
Hearing how frustrated you are is worrying considering I don’t even have a 1/10th of the experience that you do and I have to do this to my crvs
See…..I watched your original Element control arm video a couple of years ago so when my turn came, I just bought new control arms with the bushings pre-loaded. The labor savings was more than worth it.
In San Diego cat theft is rampant. Cat's for crack. I'd love to find a fwd manual.
I have a 2006 element and i would like to know if 2003 engine and 2006 engine are the same ? Thank you very much
What engine did you replace it with?
