  1. Are you saying the Mavic Mini weighs 249gr with the sim card and battery installed? If not, then it will have to be registered. The regulations state under 500 grams "at take off."

  2. Great first drone, yes but if you're looking for a more portable version with most of the higher end features then the mavic air is perfect for that.

  3. Ok, I'm a Tello pilot and I just looked at my little drone and said "they've made you redundant. Fuck them, I'm still gonna fly you." I will get this drone eventually, but don't underestimate the value of good quality small drones to give to your kids (or yourself) flying lessons. DJI developed the avionics in the Tello, while Ryze made the airframe. It's still fun to fly and good to learn from. Money matters, learn from good quality DJI inspired drones before paying a packet for more expensive ones. It's like buying a guitar when you want to learn to play. Would you fork out $1,000 for a guitar to learn, or $100 for a cheap one in case it isn't what you're after? If you love droning (and I do) then go for it!

Fyi, Tello encourage girls to have a go at droning and I'm a girl too. It's a lot of fun. I've never crashed my drone significantly (besides a couple of hard landings due to wind) and girls can drone really well. Join the community, irrespective of your drone in your hand, anyone can fly a drone with the proper knowledge/introduction to aerospace traffic and CAA guidelines. Seriously, it's tons of fun and a great hobby that can turn into a career. I really enjoy flying my drone around.

I like the Mavic mini, it looks like the kind of drone I'll eventually upgrade to and then larger. My questions are these: Brushless motors, how fast?

  4. from DJI FAQ – Mavic Mini’s downward sensors (along with it’s GPS) aid with positioning and stability. If you are flying in an area with obstacles, we recommend using Mavic Mini with the 360° Propeller Guard to protect the propellers and fly safely.

  5. Good review! I have one also and the video is much better than I expected. Also the controllability is awesome, even in moderate winds. It looks like the Mini is struggling a bit but the camera platform is rock solid and doesn't move a bit. I've had it out to 1 kilometer in the heart of the city and no issues at all. Online reviewers have had it out past 3 miles in the countryside! It's a keeper!
