While prepping the engine block for painting, we ran into a couple of issues. The first isn’t so much an issue as it is something we had to do to accommodate the turbo, and that was install a drain port for the oil return. The second problem that came up was with clearance of the 4 bolt main block. The original block was only 2 bolt main, my new block has 4 bolt mains. Because of that, we needed to ‘clearance’ the oil pan to get it to fit onto the block.

It’s all part of the process when you want to go fast.

  1. This is hack job inc. I get that you are doing it 'per the instructions'. I did it the same way, mounting a Vortech Supercharger on my Mustang. But only because it was my only option!! I wasn't going to pull the engine, to drill and weld a bung into my oil pan. You had the engine out, oil pan on the bench?! No excuse to not do this job correctly.

  3. Should have welded the correct nut on the outside. I know people think this is OK. But there is a shit load of vibration and heat on an oil pan..One reason they design oil pans made for this purpose. The last car i built. I removed the stock oil pan and went with a dry sump system. That was also water cooled with the proper oil filter adapter.

  4. you could see the marks in the pan where the main bolts were hitting too, personally i would have welded the bung, and preheated the pan when shaping it around the mains, just to make the chances of a hairline crack a little less. I would have drilled the hole and left the air hammer in the toolbox. 🙂

  6. This is the second hack video in a row i have watched with that machine shop and eric. Oh boy i would not be proud. This is the complete wrong way to do this. Npt steel bung and the correct size hole and tig it in. Sad.

    If it works, it works. ALTHOUGH I have learned that if you hack it it will work for a period of time. a month, a year, fifteen years. it just depends, but in the back of your mind its going to eat away at you, knowing you've done the job wrong and one day you'll go back and fix it, because its not the customer's car… its your car. Blood sweat and tears went to doing it right and when everyone says it's butched you'll know you fucked up and you'll fix it. then you'll look at it 15 years from now and be happy knowing you did right and followed your judgement despite what the directions said. You consciously don't want a bung Eric, but you subconsciously need one…….

  11. You really ought to do Kalvinator a favor and delete this video. I watched the other videos with kevin and he seems to know his stuff and did quality work. This mickey mouse mod, which you agree wasn't their fault, really makes the operation look poor.

  12. What I can not believe is this. 1) The method used. While the pan is off the engine, and your at a machine shop you choose the most hackery way to do it. 2) In your many years of experience you didn't question this method or voice that you verified this method with On3Performance 614.439.0057 prior to start and state in the video that you did that. 3) After filming and in video edit phase, go HMMM this really looks butchery. The hint might have been the father walking off shaking his head. And send him the rough cut and ask him what he thought PRIOR to posting it online. 4) After taking criticism on this method in comments, just take the video offline in respect for the machine shop and the owner.

  14. I like the instruction you said about them saying no drilling the pan coz of chips & yet you have to thread the hole for the fitting.= chips. haha. Yes in your case the pan was off so did not matter.

  15. Does anyone know if you would need to make 2 holes for the oil return line on a Twin Turbo setup? Or can you just get an adapter to run 2 hoses from 1 hole?

I don't where he got that oil pan (it looks like junkyard stuff) and threading an oil return into thin metal like that with sealer? Wow. The goofiness is getting a little old also. No disrespect but this one was just too much.

Thought it would be better. i'm with the other guy I hope to god I never run into a shop like this.

  18. i dont usually like silicon used to seal anything on the oil pan, but maybe in this case they have a good reason. Silicon getting into the oil can clog the oil pickup.

  20. Very disappointed in this video. A complete lack of professionalism. I do not think I would ever do business with the shop after seeing this kind of work they perform and consider acceptable. I don't really care what the instructions say, this method was just wrong anyway you look at it.

  21. eric i just ask that you make an etcg1 video admitting that this method is not ideal. even diy guys wouldve had someone weld in a fitting. whats a new oil pan gasket and a fitting gonna cost? thats totally in the average guys budget.

  22. This is On3 kit and this is how my instructions said to make the hole as well(07 GT) and I have put around 30k miles on mine with zero leaks.

  23. Should have brazed a female brass bung with 5% silver rod and be done forever. That IS going to turn itself loose in the worst time (most likely in the burnout box). You're on time to fix this. Good luck.

  24. Holy shit just weld on a barb. I know the kit says do it this way which would make sense if the it was on the engine and in the car but this is just butchery
