I want this ton that the m5 v10 presents, if I get a complete engine with harness and ecu. code reader etc, any thing else you can recommend to me for research or to purchase prior to a complete engine purchase.

You need the diversity antenna from the rear C Pilar on the passenger side, you will need that plus the CPU for the comfort access to work,
When you paint it, make the inside of the door jam black so you can repaint the car any color without having it look bad.

Your scanner may not be reading because BMW use a gateway module system. If there is a faulty/disconnected module in the vehicle, this prevents the ECU from being able to communicate with the OBD port.
It's a bitch of a design and makes it hard to diagnose what is wrong with a vehicle. If a module fails it requires replacing and coding to the individual vehicle by BMW. I haven't heard of anyone being able to get around this issue but I would love to hear if anyone has.
