Salvage Yard Tip: Don’t Be a Selfish Tool!

**Sponsored Video**While I was at Pull-A-Part in Atlanta, we decided to make a video about ‘salvage yard etiquette’. I had a ton of fun with Erik Tande of Velosity Labs making this video.

Most of this is common sense, but you’d be surprised at how often you see this bad behavior in the salvage yard.

So next time you’re at the salvage yard, try and keep these helpful tips in mind.

If you’re not familiar with Pull-A-Part, they’re a self service salvage company in the US. They have 25 yards in 12 states. I’m not just saying this, but they’ve become my favorite place to go for salvage parts. I suggest you check them out.

  1. Easier said than done. When you're looking to pull a part and it's blazing hot & humid or freezing cold out you just want to get it & go. Believe me most people don't care about unnecessarily braking things and i don't blame them one bit. It's a salvage yard which usually means first come first serve. If you can't make it there before a vehicle is totally stripped…than TO BAD.

  2. But why? It's fun checking 10 vehicles spread across the yard with a heavy bag if tools fo find one little parts that's already removed, broken or is just missing

  3. People are all selfish tools here at pick n pull in canada… kids especially i saw some kids trying to bash out windows, i went over and asked them if theyd like me to bash their heads in with my half inch breaker bar, started talking shit wouldnt you know, turned, grabbed one guy threw him in a hole.

  4. what do you do if you want parts, say under the hood of a car, but someone is working on the interior? Can they "claim" parts like fuel injectors while working in the interior and not having touched them, or is that bad play?

  5. I avoid junkyard as much as possible. Also most junkyard do not give you refund, instead they give you credit for parts. Sometimes they will knowingly sell you bad parts that had been returned

  6. Chasing down parts for a 2007 Nissan Versa after the dealership said they don't make parts for it. Okay, basically golden rule at the salvage yard.

  7. I have been going to junk yards for now almost four years and my biggest pet peeve with the junkyards is that they should have the keys on file and for your license you get the keys to the car and when you return you get your license back. Just yesterday I wanted a wooden steering off a Volvo and it is near impossible when you don't have the key to move the steering window. Plus I have seen way to many trunks that are open with a crow bar or take out a tail light to pull the kiddy safety piece in the trunk.

  8. I cant always agree with the wiring harness aspect. Yes it is nice not to damage them but what if you are there to get a replacement connector. You kind of have to damage the harness to get said connector in the first place.

Not to mention seems like every junkyard around here they automatically cut wiring vs removing parts. Wish they wouldn't do that especially for engines as engine connectors are quite hard to find as most of them from dealerships sell the whole harness only.

  9. Good advice for some of our younger generation not all but some it seems have never been taught respect and have a sense of entitlement like I said not all but some for sure and it's sad where the work ethic has gone idk but these kids are the future
Of our country we are definitely in trouble in the future ! Sorry for rambling my son has me. Heated with that very issue lazy and entitlement issues well it's not the case get a job if you need money kid it's that simple
