How to Fix a Squeaky Belt (figure out where the squeak is coming from)

Belt squeal, squeaky belt, belt noise? Learn how to fix a squeaky belt in your car. Usually the belt noise comes from the belt tensioner pulley, idler pulley, or the belt itself. The serpentine belt in your car powers the accessories such as air conditioning, power steering, the alternator, fan, and waterpump. There are three types of serpentine belt wear, pilling, glazing, and abrasion. Pulley wear will cause your pulley to squeak. A worn out pulley bearing or a worn spring in the tension pulley can also cause squeaking. I show you how to use water to identify what type of squeak problem you have and then how to find the problem.

Here is the belt that will get rid of the squeak due to misalignment: http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=gatorback%20belts&linkCode=ur2&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Agatorback%20belts&tag=chri0e2-20&url=search-alias%3Daps&linkId=RR2BPLQO7JXS3LTH

  1. Ive had a power steering leak for the longest time on my impala 3.5l so the whole side the belt is on is wet. Went to degrease the engine as to determine where the power steering is leaking from and now after that my belt started squeaking…So I checked all the pulleys all seem solid and running strait, no wobble and my belt has no cracks at all, was replaced a year or so ago. What now? If it was the power steering fluid causing it to squeak it would've been doing it this while time not now thays I've cleaned it all off haha?

  2. I thought it was my a/c compressor that was making the noise and had my mechanic replace it. The sound went away but now I think it was just the pulley. Probably spent about $300 extra. Oh well, at least now my new compressor should last longer than me.

  3. faild pulley/belt are huge problems. bad pulley ripped off belt on my wrangler couple times during offroad activities. best to change'em periodically regardless of the condition, especially on 4x4s.

  4. My truck has 2 other small belts below the serpentine belt, u should make a video on how to change those out bc they look like they can be a major pain lol.

  5. my moms car has this issue i tell her to go fix it but she says no because "it still works" but i dont want her power steering to fail while driving but meh what can you do

  6. Where can I buy one of these belts? They are called Continental Elite now. Can’t find an auto parts store that carries them.

  7. Just replaced my ac clutch. Noticed that the belt was done, so i ordered a new one. After changing that my CR-V started to sing. I used a brass brush to clean the ac pulley lines and the sqeak went away. yeiii

  8. Hi I replace my pulley replaced my alternator and also replace my belt and I'm still getting the chirping sound so do you think I need to replace my power steering pump

  9. What if the squeak becomes more louder when i press on the gas and drive then squeak stops once i change to second gear? Got a manual. Thanks for your answer in advance

  10. My car JUST got a new pulley a few months ago. The other day it was squealing when I accelerated only. took it in & the belt had been knocked loose. Fixed. Now it doesn’t squeal, but it does SQUEAK when I accelerate. Ideas?

  11. So i have a question.
I drive a 2003 buick rendezvous v6 when i go to turn the steering wheel it makes a squeal nois on the passenger side i dont know what it is

  12. mine chirps at higher rpm….goes away at idle…increases speed with rpm…and when spraying it with water (ribbed side) it goes away for a couple seconds then squeals for a couple seconds then back to chirping.
