So while I was putting the winter tires on my wife’s van, I destroyed one of the TPMS sensors. Yea, it sucked, but at least it was only $40 for a new one. Thing is, just putting in a new sensor isn’t enough. Therefore I employed the use of my OTC Encore and matching TPR tool. My TPMS light is now out, and all is right with the world again.

you mean to tell me chevy made a way better system than honda??? on my 08 chevy van all you have to do is hit a button till it says tire pressure relearn and the front left blinker lights up and you just release some air out of the tire till the horn sounds and move to the next and you are done after all 4. no tools required.
whats a cheap complete TPMS set that does its job

what? do you have to plug OBDII stuff in to reset TPMS on honda? on Ford you make a "code" with the brake and ignition and the horn beeps once. then you use a tool (we use some universal i suppose since you can choose alot of vehicles) and "scan" each sensor, and each time it´s a successful reading, the tool and car beeps once. somnetimes the tool or vehicle doens´t beep, and you´ll have to to it all over…

So, if I buy my mom a set of winter tires, this is what I have to do each time I switch them out? I was wanting to mount them to another set of wheels to save the hassle of dismounting and remounting tires, but due to the cost this isn't much better.

I agree with the comments about these tools not being affordable by most backyard mech's BUT, I still like to know how it's being done by tire places that do it for free. So, in that regard, I appreciate the video showing what is involved. Thanks Eric!
Man, I wish Snap On would switch their freaking Versus scanners into Android OS. I can't believe they're still using Windows XP on those machines that's cost like $4000-7000. Sure it's handy, but the thing works slow as hell and not very user friendly.

Then again.. so did I and it was such a pain finding the right replacement for it.
tire pressure warning lights need you to drive for a bit to auto-clear once registered and have the correct tire pressure. Or you can just clear the codes, but for the normies out there without a tool to clear engine codes, just take it for a drive once you have correct air pressure.
Of course you will need these tools to reset it if your sensor goes bad after you replace it.
Which do you think is best encore or Autel?
I'd love to have seen where these TPMS sensors are located, how they are mounted, and how they transmit information (and, if by radio, then also where they get their power from, or if they have a battery and how long it lasts). All this info about a new system, that isn't present in most cars yet, because it was only established on a wide basis of vehicles during the last years, would have been really helpful. Eric, did you also make a video about the repair/replacement of this TMPS sensor I can look forward to? (Because, basically, programming them is the most straight-forward part of the whole procedure – at least to me it is.)

As far as I can tell this tool does two things that the cars tps computer cannot. It activates the sensor (turns it on) and sends the unique code to the TPMS. There are much cheaper tools that can activate and read. It is in all a major hassle.
The price to pay for the existence of idiots who cannot manage their tyre pressures.

Does Chevrolet cars need an activation tool if you install a new sensor?
Because I need to change one of the sensors in my car and I don't know if it needs an activation tool or just install it and do relearn process.

Hey Eric I have a question I've got an 89 f150 and my check engine light comes on only when I give it gas it doesn't do it when slow driving but when I get on it it flashes and thin goes off? Plz help

huh, i always just let the air out on the tire to the corresponding signal light then the horn beeps and a new light comes on to check another tire. but thats on my chevy, guess some cars require the tool?

The horn pretty much only sounds when relearning/ resetting TPMS for Fords and Chevys.
i put new rims and tires on a 14 ram 2500 today and needed some new tpms kits so i could swap the sensors call the dealer they dont even sell the kits they sell the whole sensor and they were $16 a piece i, never had a sensor that cheap much less oem ones haha
