Some Capitol riot suspects could be charged with sedition

Federal prosecutors are considering rarely used sedition charges against at least some of the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Prosecutors need to prove people conspired to use force.

  1. I wonder if they are still so self-righteous, now that Sidney Powell has admitted that it was all a big lie, and that only total boneheads would believe it. I also wonder how many of them are going to regret chanting "lock her up" at frump rallies.

  2. What's needed is swift prosecution, conviction and incarceration of these cop killers and everyone who encouraged, aided or participated in the violent storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6. It is critically important that the government sends a clear message, now, to any others contemplating violent overthrow of the Republic that it will not be tolerated.

  3. Screw those “plea deals” we did the same with the south when they lost! Generations later the grandchildren of those traitors invaded our capitol! 🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. Sedition charges for participants in the Capitol riots? What a joke. American citizens who act to uphold the Constitution cannot by definition be engaged in sedition, which is an attempt to overthrow the lawful government. Moreover, history is firmly against it.

The Sedition Act of 1798 – a statute that expired without being enforced – is widely viewed by constitutional scholars as unconstitutional. The Act of 1861 (a sedition statute to punish those who conspired to levy war against the United States, i.e., the seceding states) was never enforced either, in spite of armed opposition to the federal government. Lincoln correctly believed that US citizens who are asserting their right to self-determination (Confederates) could not be guilty of sedition. In fact, the converse is true. The peoples’ right of self-determination is enshrined in the first paragraph of the US Constitution – our Founding Fathers asserted it as their justification for forming our own government, over the objections of the prevailing government in England. The patriots who demonstrated at the Capitol are in company with the Framers and are no more guilty of sedition than the patriots who dumped English tea in Boston harbor.

Even the facts are against a sedition claim. The people who entered the Capitol Building were not equipped to mount an insurrection and had no such intent. They were merely making a political statement. If anything, they were trying to resurrect the government of the United States, to restore the Republic and protect it against the unlawful usurpation of the 2020 election. They wanted to make the US government responsible to the will of the people, not overthrow the government. To the contrary, the Democrats and their donors who rigged the election are guilty of sedition by their unauthorized alteration of the election process. To charge the Capitol demonstrators with sedition is to turn the Constitution on its head and to hold that the people exist to serve the government – and there is no support in the Constitution or in American law for that totalitarian proposition.

  5. Biden and the government are going to appoint a commission to investigate the Capitol riot and issues a report. We all know just how ineffective these "commissions" are and their real purpose is to hide evidence, disregard witnesses and come up with false conclusions they are ordered to do. I am talking about the Warren Commission that investigated the assassination of President Kennedy. The findings of that commission and their lone gunman no conspiracy theory have been proven by many qualified researchers to be totally wrong. We have seen before when the Democrats appoint a commission to investigate something. The results are a total joke. And now they are at it again with a "commission" to investigate the Capitol riots. Based on what happened with the Warren Commission and their report don't expect any truth out of the Biden administration and their Capitol riots "commission".

  6. 21 year old, Trump hating, Muslim brown man from Syria. MSM and their race war can eff off. Terrorism plain and simple.

  7. If the local PD, FBI, & CIA, HUNTED America's ENEMIES like they DO AMERICANS, there would be no NEED for anyone to storm DC or 1,300 Chinese SPIES in US U's.

  8. And it's a good thing the Capitol security opened the doors for this to occur, or you'd not have a thing to complain about. all theater and no Razor wire needed either eh?

  9. what about the one who is and has been committing sedition and funding Anarchy for years against this nation? Soros? how does he operate unfettered?

  10. Don't stop until everyone of them are prosecuted!
And why should all the followers be prosecuted and not their leader Trump! Hummmm

  11. Sedition but not treason? Hmmm. What would've happened if these were BLM who raided the Capitol? I have a feeling BIG double standard here!

  12. Yeah I’m more concerned with cities burning for several months costing billions of dollars in damages then a riot that lasted a few hours.

  13. A captain is suppose to go down with the ship. However, in this case our captain led our troops into battle with words only and fled to mar lago. If Trump was a true leader he would stand up and take responsibility instead hide behind the lines like a rigid king while the pawns get knocked down. Its clear that these politicians are two sides of the same coin. Trump told us they were faking death records for covid..influenced us not to wear mask or social distance…yet now he goes on fox and tells us to take the vaccine. I wonder how much he has invested in these pharmaceutical companies.. Sad. I pray America will one day have a true leader that will stand up for decency, justice, equality, and peace. Notwitstanding, it is up to us as individuals to come together in unity for today we all have a common enemy~

  14. First charge OUR government for wasting tax payer money, not being prepared prior to inviting more immigrants in – it's wrong for the and us that we didn't wait until we knew we had more housing, food, transportation and freaking BIRTH CONTROL. Yes, BIRTH CONTROL – who in the world makes babies when they don't even have a country to go to?

Sex is not like taking a dump, you have to take a dump you don't have to have sex! Too many babies!!! And for people who can't even afford them. It's a mess!

Yahoo has a great story on the $86,000,000 tax payer money they are spending on 1200 immigrants for hotel rooms for 3 months. That equates to $71,000 a year per person.

Just give them that money and send them back to their own country if you are going to do that. There has to be a better solution. I was hoping Biden would have better solutions than to flush my money down the drain!!! https://news.yahoo.com/biden-spending-86-million-hotel-032030752.html

  15. But the people setting DC and the rest of the country on fire for a year get a bail fund pushed by Kamala Harris. A MINOR scuffle for a few hours is really all that you guys have to latch on to. It's pathetic. Your lives must be so empty now without Trump as president. I'd pity you if you weren't so disgusting.

  16. Sedition

Conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch.

I do that all the time. When was the 1st Amendment banned?
