I got my Sunex 20 Ton press mainly to do the rebuild on the T-5 transmission that’s going into my 1979 Fairmont. I’ve since used it in many other projects and I have to say, I’m very happy with it. Now, 20 tons may seem like a lot, but it may not be enough for every application. The Ford rear wheel bearing comes to mind. Although I think a 100 ton press would have also struggled in that situation.

Something else to consider is all the other equipment you’re going to need to use your press. Sunex has done a great job with this press and given you plenty to get started with, but you may find that you’ll also want to pick up a bearing splitter and perhaps some other steel blocks for positioning things in the press.

That said, I think this press works very nicely and I’m always happy to say that something was made in the USA.

  1. piece of shit fucking wheel bearing that won't come out! I NEED SOME DAMN ALUMINUM SPACERS SO I CAN GET THIS WHEEL BEARING REPLACED SO I CAN FIX THE CAMBER AND TOE SO I CAN FINALLY DRIVE TO WORK! FUCKKKKK

  2. You should consider using that thing to make some keyrings to sell as merch. After you've figured out how to make them, you could train some apprentice to crank them out.

  3. hola amigo yo estoy construyendo una prensa similar de 20 toneladas de capacidad en cuanto la haya terminado te mando el vídeo.yo trabajo en un centro de servicio llantero mi puesto es de técnico suspencionistá y alineador de autos

  5. i built mine and it is quite similar to that one and i use a 20 ton bottle jack just like that one ive put all the pressure i could on it and nothing on the frame bent or broke but after seeing yours it gives me an idea for 3 modifications

  6. I have a similar press like this one, but I accidentally spilled out some oil when adjusting the pressure. I refilled the oil but bow it doesnt work any longer.. Does somebody know how to bleed a press like that?

  7. Ok, so how the FUCK does heat + 20 ton press NOT get a bearing out? lol. That's insanity!

Very nice press. Bit pricey, but looks like very good quality.

  8. Eric – Have you checked out the Swag arbor plates? They look nice for a reasonable cost. They'd probably cut you a deal for some publicity.

  9. Think I would get a longer handle, so you can have the option of standing off a little, In case of flying parts. Maybe drill a
hole on the handle and install a small rod, so you can use like a handle when you relieve the jack pressure, trying to twist that small round bar is a pain. Kinda like those long wrenches with the cross bar. Couple of NASCAR stickers would bring it all together quite nicely. The place where I buy metal always has cut offs in all different sizes, but they dont give them away, I tried that approach, didnt work. Made in USA, In the end its all about the price, since the average wage has stayed the same for 40 years, Taken Inflation into account. Pretty soon family's will be composed of 3 or 4 adults just to be able to buy the Bread and milk, forget about health care thats going bye-bye.
Time is the ultimate gauge of how well the tool was made "Time will Tell"

  10. Nice press! You may want to adjust the springs so the ram in the jack retracts all the way. Otherwise the ram may get rust pits on the exposed part which will tear up the seal if you ever have to fully retract it. This is one of my many pet peeves after having it happen 😉 Chris

  11. I have the harbor freight press works great no issues. Only thing is that it didnt come with extra attachments however it came with bigger plates with cut outs and well as a 1 piece handle so if you took both presses into one it would be the perfect press.

  12. I have a first gen Tacoma and the spindle on the front steering knuckles needs to be pressed out with a 50 ton press in order to swap out the bearings. That is the only thing that I've never been able to do with a press very much like the sunex 20 ton… What a great tool to have in the shop!

  13. Eric, I can recommend you to weld some small pieces on the undersides of the blocks so they don´t fall off.You can also do a V-cut in them to be able to slide them all the way together when having an axle in between. And lastly, I would try to find some sort of knob and attach it to the release. That way you can release pressure with your hand. Handy!

  14. Put those 3/4 thick steel bottom plates on their sides and they will take far more tonnage without bending, versus laying them flat as they are in the video. Thats a very nice setup.

  15. I have a cheap Harbor Freight model but so far so good. But I must admit, mine didn't come with any accessories. Have fun Eric, that's a nice one.

  16. I have one of the Horror Fright 12 ton ones. It did not even fit together properly but works. But for $129 can't complain.

They do come with bigger square plates with notches in them; different sizes on each side. HF sells parts cheap. Maybe you can order a set of plates from them.
