EricTheCarGuy Answers Questions Live #34 1/21/2015

The next live hang out is scheduled for February 4, 2015 at 7pm EST. Check my Google+ page for details: https://plus.google.com/b/100195180196698058780/100195180196698058780/posts

**NOTE: I incorrectly described tire sizes in this video. The first number is actually a measurement of width of the tire tread, not the circumference. I’ll also mention this in the next show. Till then, here’s a link to an explanation of tire sizes.

In this episode we talked about rebuilding or replacing an engine, clutch problems, loose manual shifters, CRV rear end noise, inoperative washers, head gasket problems, converting HVAC controls, choosing the correct headlights, oil leaks on Honda 2.7L V6, different sized tires on the same axle, electrical problems, transmission problems, worn synchronizers, burning too much fuel, and why car manufacturers use so many computers.

If I didn’t get to your question I apologize. Questions posted after the event ends will not be answered. Questions posted to the YouTube video will not be answered. Next show is January 17, 2015 7pm EST though, or visit EricTheCarGuy.com 24/7/365.

  1. PLEASSSEEEE HEREEEEDSSS PLEASESSEE HERE ERICCCCC….. PLEASE SAY SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THOSE MECHANICS THAT ARE GIVEN ESTIMATES OVER THE PHONE WITH OUT EVER SEEN THE CAR…………

  2. Excellent job on this show, Eric!!  You kept it moving along.  In many cases, just refer the people to one of your videos to answer their question.  Quick, clear and concise!

  3. Just bought a used car but the previous owner lost the car manual -_-  Do I have to go to the car dealership and order a new one or is there a website I can visit and print one off myself?

  4. Regarding the 2002 pickup with the replaced head gasket, I disagree with your comments Eric. With the info given; overheated, still runs hot after the repair, and 150,000 miles, my comments to the viewer would not have been to put pressure on the mechanic, but to admonish the viewer for making a bad decision. Why did the car overheat to begin with, how far was it driven hot to blow the head gasket, and what damage was done other than the gasket at that time are questions that should have been considered. That engine I'm my opinion should have been replaced from the get go, and that's only if the rest of the truck warranted it. I would hope that the mechanic educated your viewer as to the potential problems that could arise with the job as it was done. If he did then it's the viewers bad decision and he will have to live with it.

  5. Is it normal to have a anti freeze smell coming from my heater I smell it every time I turn on my heater in the car just curious to why I smell it ,

  8. You get a lot of jeep questions because there are so many of them out there.  When they're taken care of they'll run forever.  So many people can't seem to grasp the idea that if they pay a bit every few months for routine maintenance that they're vehicle will last longer.  I had 232k on my 96 Grand Cherokee LTD 4×4 4.0L I6, and many of those miles were hard offroad miles.  I just did the severe service recommendations every 3k and it kept right on going.  Current owner says he's pushing 400k on it and that was about 3 months ago.

  9. Anybody have any info on changing the transmission fluid on a 2013 Chevy Impala.V-6.
I have learned that there is no serviceable filter,Thanks an take care

  10. At 22:50 you say that the first number on a tire is the outer circumference. This is not correct. The first number is the tire width in millimeters. You need to calculate the circumference using the other two numbers, which are tire profile (wall height) in percentage of the width, and rim size in inches respectively.

  11. Hi Eric! I have a K20A Type R engine swap in my car. I love my car, but I dont drive this car often, and sometimes it sits months at a time. What is the best advice you have for letting my car sit for extended periods of time? I just want to save my engine, so it will still be working in 10 years from now. Thanks!

  12. ive got a 2000 chevy monte carlo and when the car is in D 3 2 or 1 sometimes when i press the pedal the car wont rev past 2000 or 3000 rpm, any advice?

  13. 05 Volvo V50 – it makes a clunking noise when I accelerate. If I'm slowing down and accelerate again, it makes the same clunking noise. I was told it could be the torque strut and torque arm.  Your thoughts?

  14. Hey Eric I just wanted to drop a thank you line again.  Your videos helped to bleed out my cooling system and stop my car from over heating.  I'm used to older cars and had no idea there was a bleeder valve. Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!

  15. id like to put more usb ports in my car , where could i splice into or get the power from to make it easier to charge things and for my friends?

  17. Hey mate, this is a ABS question.. When I come to a slow stop the abs makes a mechanical noise pulling the pedal back and forward for a few seconds or so. Sometimes when it has done it enough I will get the ABS light come on and it will not do it.
Would this be due to dirty ABS sensors?.

  18. what are your thoughts on draining engine oil with the sump plug method compared to using the suction through the dip stick method.

  19. Eric,

I have what appears to be a suspension issue in my 2007 Pontiac G6.  I've found some forums on the particular issue but no one seems to have a definite fix.  On the drivers side when it is below freezing my suspension will thump/knock until the car is warmed up and then it is no longer noticeable.  During the summer months it sounds fine.  I've found TSBs that say check the endlinks on the stabilizer bar and inspect your strut mount.  I guess my question is why would this only happen in cold months?

  20. Hi Eric
Why does my car overheat in slow paced moving traffic, and cool down when I speed up? It's a pontiac sunfire 2000. Ty!!

  21. Thanks for making such informative and helpful videos! So the other day a bought a 1996 honda civic hatch manual with an engine/tranny swap from a d series to a b16b. When I bought it, I had to replace the passenger side transaxle. Well there was only one of three of the bolts on the motor mount on the side connecting to the car that were there when I bought it and one bolt with no washer and no nut so I bought a washer and nut and out that on. Then later I realised that there was the third bolt missing, so I was going to down the road to get the new bolt when the nut I installed came off (which I had tightened all the way right before I left) and then the other bolt had broken too and the weight of the engine instantly snapped the axle again. I know I need a new axle, but should I get a new motor mount or just some new bolts for it, and if so which motor mounts/bolts do you recommend? Also do you think that might've damaged anything else in my engine when the axle snapped. The engine never hit the ground itself. Thanks

  22. Eric,
Thanks for all the great info that you provide! I have a 1991 Ford E 150 conversion van with 64k miles. Dual gas tanks. Gas guage doesn't work with either the front or rear tank. I know both tanks are full. Is the guage bad?
