EricTheCarGuy Answers Questions Live #18 5/7/2014

I messed up! The next live hang out is scheduled for May 21, 2014 at 7pm EST, NOT May 14. Check my Google+ page for details: https://plus.google.com/b/100195180196698058780/100195180196698058780/posts

In this show we talked about transmission issues, suspension noises, manual transmission noises, alignments, blue smoke from your exhaust, a P0172 code, and a LeSaber that cuts out randomly. At least that’s the stuff I remember.

If I didn’t get to your question I apologize. Questions posted after the event ends will not be answered. Questions posted to the YouTube video will not be answered.

  1. Anyone I had my 4.7 rebuild had it put in my vehicle. A week later the rear main seal was leaking I took it back to the mechanic and they put a new one on and it still leaking anyone have any ideas for me what can make it leak even after a new one was put in

  2. Eric sorry for getting off topic but I noticed that you have lost quite a bit of weight since the first videos of yours I seen. Congratulations man! I am a huge fan of your work love peace and wheel bearing grease

  3. Hi Eric,
hopefully you'll get this message, so I have a 2002 Kia Spectra GSx Hatchback. The noise is a klunk sound when I turn left or right, when I accelerate. When I'm just driving straigh, no prob at all, when I back up, no prob at all, I have looked at it and it seems like it might the CV joints or either wheel bearings but I am no mechanic so I am not to sure. I have been drving like this for 4months now and it hasn't gotten worst, just keeps making that sound, 4 months ago I hit a pretty bad pothole and literally broke my front coil and destroyed the strut on the one side, got that fixed and since then I've been hearing that noise. I will try and take a video and see if I can get the sound on video. Thing is, when I accelerate slowly or turn very slowly or not turn till the wheel locks, the noise isn't there. I am just wondering if you seen or herd of this before?
    Thanks for reading this!

  4. Noticed the new camera guy. Just an idea, when recapping at the end have him pan over the job rather than showing just you talk. Especially when you are talking about the job.

  5. To the owner of the 1994 Mustang 5.0: check your PCV valve! If it's sticking open then under hard acceleration crankcase pressure will rise and cause oil to get sucked through the intake and burned causing your blue smoke! It will also show up as a vacuum leak because it's not being accounted for in the ECMs base values.

I had a 1998 SVT Contour that started putting out blue smoke one day at WOT and 3/4 throttle and my valve was gunked. A new valve from MOTORCRAFT ONLY will likely fix your problem. Replace any cracked PCV hoses while the valve is out. Good luck.

  6. I got a question for you.  Dodge Ram 2500 V8 only 59,000 miles was driven 200 miles where we found the oil 2 quarts low.  Fill it up and had the oil changed.  Two days later noticed watch sounded like a belt tensioner noise, but more near the power steering pump, shop removed the belt and the engine made the same noise.  Checked the oil which changed two weeks earlier and it was full of metal filings, black and like water.  No antifreeze that I could see.  Shop said it could be.  So we gather some bearing is spinning and killing the oil.  Shop recommends to buy a short or long block and not even try to repair.  They say it is just not worth the time and cost to attempt to repair. What do you recommend?  Thank you in advance.

  7. hi could you give a tutorial on how to change 2013 elantra ATF and how many quarts it takes it spills when i change the radiator the car was running by mistake

  8. Eric I have a 1992 camaro with a 5.7l 350 tbi though it surges at idle and i feel that I have done everything to mend this problem. i have been through every single sensor and all the ignition system(replaced). I have checked the fuel system and replaced it all still surges though. Should I just give up and go carburated?

  9. hi eric i have a 1999 kia sephia and im having a problem with the EVAP system ..iv replaced nearly everything on my car that deals with the EVAP .but i still get a code of P0451 EVAP control system presser range /performance . i need help figuring this out

  10. Great work man, I´ve been a suscriber for a while and just wanted to give you kudos for what you´re doing for us amateur mechanics.
I hope you can answer this:
What´s the easiest way to pull the tranny on an 86 Nissan 720 4×4 pickup?
Many people say pull the motor, others say remove crossmember/front diff and pull from under. I have tools to do both.
    What´s easier?

  11. Hey Eric, I have a 2003 chevy tahoe 4.8l and i would appreciate it if you give me some tips on increasing it's horsepower or performance with a low budget? I already have a cold air intake and exhaust placed

  12. Luckily I have finally got my '92 Explorer fixed up! If I was to ask you things about 6 months ago you would be completely overwhelmed! lol Thanks to the great Explorerforum, ScottyKilmer and YOU for your great tips and help! <3 (My passion for vehicles is also a big helper!)

  13. What do you think of HID headlights and people that do not have the right lens ? are you going to put HID head lights for any of your cars?

  14. Hey Eric, I have a 98 Accord 4 cylinder automatic with 200k. The transmission has started to slip going into first and second gear. It's been going on about a year and been getting worse lately.  I was wondering what you thought about using something like Lucas Oil Transmission Fix. I know how particular Honda trannys are to their fluid so I'm worried it might do more harm than good. Any experience with additives and Hondas?  I've kept regular fluid changes with this and only used Honda ATF.  I'm not looking to keep the car more than another year or two so doing any real transmission work is out of the question.  Thanks Eric!

  15. Hello Eric, I have a 2004 Ford ranger 3.0l 2wd and it seams that when I'm on level ground stopped shifting from park to drive, I bucks a little, also from park to reverse. The truck only has 54,000 miles and is in immaculate condition. I just got my drivers license and have been driving it every day and just noticed this issue the other day, I checked the transmission fluid level and it is perfect and the fluid from the dipstick looked very clean. I really appreciate any advice and input, thanks Russ, ps I like your videos and am looking forward to seeing more videos on Oliver. 🙂

  16. Hi, Eric! I have got a front wheel drive car and one of the CV joints is knocking. The main question is how to find which side is the bad one? The left side is original with 225000kms on it never had an issue with the rubber boot. On the right side the rubber went from the original joint, it dried out and I had to change it for a reconditioned one 40k kms ago. I am not sure about the quality of the reconditioned one so it still can be the suspect. Please help me to find a method to find the faulty one. Thank you!

  17. Hey Eric I have a 2007 sierra Gmc and I was wondering what i could add to the truck so that it has more horse power.Btw I just found your channel a few weeks ago and im addicted in learning how to fix things up i watch your videos daily.Keep up the good work man.

  18. I love what you're doing, unfortunately I will be sleeping in 5 hours and cannot attend (wish I could). I have a suggestion though, as I'm probably not the only European watching your videos, I would like to see more European car videos if that is possible? I know that cars don't differ much brand to brand (they all have 4 wheels, bolts and nuts), but it would be nice to see more cars that we can recognize. Wish you all the best from Sweden!

  19. Hey I recently bought a Mitsu Lancer 2009 for 8000$ but then i discovered that it has been accidented 3 times and that the transmission is trashed (the seller (a guy, not a used car dealer) told me it was on warranty, but its not). Do you recommend me to sue him for like 4000- 5000$ so that the price of the car is right (just the transmission is 2500 to repair) or give him back his car? I had it inspected by the dealer and they say that besides the transmission. everything's good and the accidents did not affect the car all that much. Help !
