21. It's worth thinking about this story through a socio-racial lens… My mom is brown, fairly dark skinned, and she's always been particular about how she looks when she goes in public. Not because she wants to be seen, but because she doesn't want to be judged. She used to tell me that people like us (not white) were judged harsher for wearing sloppy clothes or looking dishevelled. I used to think that was dumb, but it was only when I grew up that I realized how much less racism I faced compared to her every day as a very light skinned brown person.

    I find myself wondering whether that's why Luanne said what she did about her family believing that you should look your best whenever you go out in public. Nice, clean clothes and high fashion could be the difference between good and bad service, kindness and rudeness, or even safety and danger. I can't imagine that feels good… And it definitely brings the issue of the effects of systemic social racism to light, in my opinion.

31. That sister……is a brother….? And I don't feel sorry for this loser of a woman, not at all! She sat there, not showing any emotion, or even lifting a finger or saying something, while her sister-brother was threatening her daughter with a knife! She even gave her daughter away, coz her disgusting family didn't approve of her? The daughter is too good or any of them. Don't hurt anymore girl, be grateful they didn't want you!
