the Chinese are badge snobs and the Apple is a symbol of success when it comes to phones. So those who cannot afford an iPhone would resort to ones that look like it to pretend they could afford one rather than being original and use something different.
This is also the reason why Chinese has so many so many fake stuff. However instead of making cheap fakes like they used to companies now resort to mimicking. Hence the strong resemblance of iPhones on pretty much every budget Chinese phones you see.
