In this installment of the Sonoma engine series we get most of the stuff reconnected up top on the engine. We inch ever closer to completion. Things are going a lot smoother now that the engine is mated up to the transmission. Well except for some of the bolts I drop but that can happen with any job.   1. Great job, your obviously a fantastic mechanic. I've pulled more parts from a junkyard than I can count. I always wanted to be a full blown mechanic. But my patience level and the fact that any number of problems during re-installation can occur and just cause headaches beyond belief. A great mechanic has lots of patience and can just jump back in and correct an issue. My knuckles start bleeding and I make a mistake I'm yelling at anybody around for my mistakes. I gave it up, now its oil changes and tune ups, brakes and easy stuff for me. One thing I know is respect a mechanic its one of the most complicated jobs on the planet. So many makes and models hard to keep up. 🙂

I just finished up pulling the 2.2L engine from my 99 Sonoma to replace pistons, rings, and bearings, and I watched your videos and did the job segment by segment just the way you did. The many tips you explain as you go saved countless hours and made the job enjoyable. I completed the entire job in about a week, and was confident at each step, having seen you do it. I cannot thank you enough for your excellent video work, super clear views, and great commentary.

  3. The end of this ONE video is the only place that shows where the belt tensioner is located on this engine! I mean on ALL of the internet; my Haynes manual doesn't even show or describe where to find it! Thanks!!

  4. I was so happy when I saw you witching the Dex to regular coolant, that stuff was a great idea by GM that didn't turn out at all as planned, and has wrecked many engines as a result. Sludges up when exposed to conventional green, and sludges when exposed to air, as well as becomes very acidic when overdue for change, which eats up all your plastic intake gaskets and such. I hate that stuff with a passion.

  5. instead of leaving the coil packs and injectors unplugged you could have pulled the fuel relay! it would have helped big time and you would have been able to reconnect all those connectors lol

  6. At 4:03 will leaving the engine down while it's only held on by the transmission not bend or warp it in some way because you don't have the mounts on it yet?

  7. Don't engine mounts keep the engine connected to the car? Why doesn/t the engine fall? is it entirely held in by the few gearbox bolts that are in? Doesn't that put a huge strain on the bell housing?

  8. recently the valve replacement done in {toyota yaris 2008 automatic} after that i got internal leak of coolant fluid again after re-exploring the head of the engine there were no any cracks and any obvious causes for the leak, thoroughly examined for external leaks and without any leaks,
    now soon after starting the engine coolant is revolving and gushing outside when the radiator cap is open .kindly enrich with your great knowledge thank u ………yours biggest fan

  10. Great series on this Sonoma Eric, have an '03 S10 LS with the ZQ8 sport suspension but without the usual "extreme" body cladding – odd. But it was a "program vehicle" so must have been ordered that way– Man I gotta give you credit for your patience on this new stuff, I used to be a shop mechanic in the late 70's and 80's, engine compartments were bigger and less hookups, swap a V8 in a day amazing how much work this 4 cyl. is to swap out – again less room and more to deal with than my day —

I agree, I was a shop mechanic way back in the late 70's and 80's+ and Eric shows some of the best knowledge and skill sets on YT – back in my day this was all easier as engine compartments were bigger and not near as many hookups, sensors, etc — a 4 cyl. like this might have been a one day deal with the right gear – we used to swap V8's in a day, things were much simpler and more room to work – didn't know how good we had it-LOL

  15. Google It, I had a check engine light in my truck and I googled how to read it without a scanner. Turned out I had to turn the key a couple of times in a specific way, however that was mainly for dodges.

  17. @EricTheCarGuy i need help help diagnosing why my check engine light is on. i have a 1988 toyota supra turbo. how can i know why my CEL is on in that car? any way i can scan it? any help would me great thanks!!
