ETCG Gets a New Car! -EricTheCarGuy

Well there was a lot of deliberation and a lot of suggestions made on what I should get to replace the Subaru. I took your suggestions into account and did some searching. Some of you even suggested vehicles that aren’t even available in the states or are so rare that it would take forever to find one. Some were just out of my price range. I finally ended up with this beauty that not only fit into the budget, but will also keep us busy for some time with new videos. I love driving this car, it just feels ‘right’. It felt right from the moment I got behind the wheel.

This is also the first featured ETCG video where I use my new GoPro cameras. I think this camera is going to open up a whole new era for ETCG videos and it’s only fitting that the first time I use them is with this car. I look forward to the new videos I’ll be making with this car in 2014. Till then, here’s some useful links for you.

  1. Just found this series. I'm looking forward to this build. My first brand new car was the Mercury Zephyr in '78. Same body. Didn't like the rear windows on the Futura/Z7. It was a 302 auto. Gotta love that horn on the turn signal lever!

  2. Love the design of these cars. We had a '79 was I was young. It was gutless, break down often turd, but awesome looking. Later we had an '81 station wagon model that I learned to drive in. Wish I had kept it, that thing was a blast. Oh well.

  3. I never saw this one. I laughed when I saw the Fairmont. I always wanted one, especially after watching Bob Glidden destroy Pro Stock drag racing in one..

  4. That brought back memories. When I was just starting out as a mechanic in my dad's shop after graduating high school, he had a "regular" whose daughter drove the exact same car. Same color and same engine. I worked on that thing many years and it never required to much repair, mostly service work. The Fairmont was nothing fancy, I am not a big fan of Fords, but it was a damn good basic transportation car. The daughter finally graduated college, and as soon as she started making money the car disappeared. If the new owner took care of it, I have no doubt the thing is still going.

  5. omg!!!!! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL BUT DAMN TOO EACH HIS OWN BUT DAMN again !!!! is this the best project car eric could find in ohio !!!!!sorry hhkkeric i know you love it so ooooooohhkk !!

  6. Save yourself some heartache- skip 6 episodes after he installed the power steering unit….eric blows his bolt to early. The horsepower seems to make the build disjointed. He’s a great guy but gets giddy with horsepower, totally understandable.

  7. Personally I would have kept the fairmont bone stock. I know you always wanted a sleeper but personally I like cars that are bone stock. It’s definitely a nice car either way!!

  8. Anyone else notice that you can never see the cameras with all the different angle? At 13:47, you should see the 13:43 camera, but you don't…

EDIT: In other clips, you can see his mouth isn't moving, but he's talking. I guess he had 1 GoPro that he moved around.

  9. Hey Eric,I have a '95 Subaru Legacy AWD wagon in white ,it has 433769 miles on the clock, never misses a beat, yes I have had the engine and auto trans overhauled and it is serviced regularly but I love it and would buy another Subaru for sure, anyway I love your videos, cheer's from an Australian fan.

  10. Back when I rode on four wheels, I owned a Fairmont. Loved it as much as you do yours. Never any problem and the thing was light. Didn't care that it wasn't fast. I had another car for that. Thanks for bringing it back to me.

  11. Eric I just started watching your videos and they are great I also noticed you have a very large garage and semis in the parking lot. Do you work on 18-wheelers? I'm just curious because I drive one for a living, and my personal vehicle is a Honda Civic, thanks!

  12. The Fairmont is what the driving school that I attended used. Remember wondering why the horn was activated by pressing the turn signal. Awesome sleeper!

  13. Yes I remember it in the showroom, it had the standard 4 cylinder At the time you could order or they had it in stock at the dealer the motor mounts for the 460 CID engine. There was one in the town running around and seen the setup. Wow I had the1978 fairmont futura and it came factory with the V8 and around a 271 rear end. Enjoyed it and put a lot of miles on it. Enjoyed your video!

  14. It’s amazing how different it is now, i remember watching this video and how excited i was for the future 😎
