Lots of speculation about painkillers, but my guess is that it was more likely a combination of high speed in an unfamiliar vehicle, a dodgy section of road, and maybe, just maybe texting while driving. If the guy was going to be late, there seems a reasonable chance he was communicating about his status. Speeding in a vehicle you are not familiar with, on a road with curves, could be the simplest explanation of all. Would be interesting to compare his own vehicles cornering or center of gravity characteristics with this courtesy SUV.
