  1. I've seen what happens with the eletrolysis between cast iron heater line and copper water piping in my old apartment building. We used to get water leaks about every few months in the bulding. The aluminum frame and the impact bar are all part of the crash energy absorption system built into the car. The frame will bend and twist to divert energy from the passenger cabin. The steel will be more rigid but more likely to rip things apart further back in the front bay.

Not bad but the support braces inside frame strutsure for support is missing important for strength open end plates and fix support it's there for a reason don't shortcut your to good got that b is for best builder it looks great I've been working on cars my entire life your getting better don't shortcut if the car gets hit again someone could get hurt the strength changed without support inside sorry your better than that your killing me you have been doing so good the car turned out great you can still fix make me proud open end plates if you do it once judgement is everything you have a choice those support are for stressed on metal when hit little things mean alot

  3. Love the series but I think it would have been wise to have your certified aerospace welding mate consult an engineer on that one then simply buy a new sub frame. Wide relief Slots cut at intervals along the edges of the rail is the way it’s often done by Porsche and co so it can concertina. Let’s the water flow out too! I’m amazed what you can get back on the road in the U.S! That would never pass a crash test I’m afraid.

  4. This build was impressive until you started putting steel on an aluminum chassis. As you can see in the comments that is a bad idea on so many levels. Besides you just welded a stronger material into your crumple zone, so that if you get into a head-on collision then the energy will not be absorbed, and instead it will kill you and the car.

  5. Regarding the steel vs. aluminum debate: it appears you are using aluminum as the basis for your otherwise steel crash structure. As the saying goes, any system is only as strong as its weakest component. By that I meant to say it may be most prudent to fully revamp the entire crash structure as far back as practical if you truly do not believe Lotus designed the car to be as safe as possible. I am not fighting you nor disagreeing with you in any way; on the contrary. However, the car could be even safer if you reinforced the existing crash structure even farther back.

  6. Always wear a respirator when grinding aluminum. Its very harmful to breathe in. Much more so than regular steel. aluminum wont rust way away in your lungs and stays there forever, causing permanent damage, almost like asbestos !
