Hot Rod Magazine’s “Drag Week” is the yearly test and trial of what can define a street car, and how far the limitations of technology can be pushed! Considered the world’s most GRUELING street car challenge, participants willingly indulge in a hellish week plagued with stresses and failures to prove the worth of their build against others. Starting at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA for Drag Week 2018, competitors were required to not only make passes each day and turn in their best time, but they MUST drive their car and any tools or special parts required to fix them to and from each drag way. In 2018, competitors started in Atlanta, GA, and drove to Darlington, SC ► Charlotte, NC ► Bristol, TN, and back to Atlanta, GA to complete the near 1,000 mile journey to determine the validity of what they consider a TRUE street car!

  1. @1320video, the person that designed the First Generation Ford/Mercury Capri, as well as the First Generation Ford Cortina/Ford P 100/Ford Taunus, and the Ford Pinto/Mercury Bobcat, was named Philip T. Clark and not only was he ironically from the USA, but that he was also one of the four designers of, if not THE lead designer for, the First Generation Ford Mustang/Mercury Cougar. However, despite looking similar to the Ford Maverick/Sixth Generation Mercury Comet, the First Generation Ford/Mercury Capri, as well as the First Generation Ford Cortina/Ford P 100/Ford Taunus, and the Ford Pinto/Mercury Bobcat, all were built upon the same chassis, but the Ford Maverick/Sixth Generation Mercury Comet were built upon the same chassis as the First Generation Ford Mustang/Mercury Cougar, as well as the Ford (Americas) Falcon, Ford (Australia/Oceania) XK Falcon, Ford (Australia/Oceania) XL Falcon, Ford (Australia/Oceania) Falcon Van, Mercury (Canada) Econoline, Ford (Americas) Falcon Station Bus, Ford (Americas) Econoline Station Bus, Ford (Canada) Frontenac, and the Ford (Americas) Falcon Ranchero. Still, despite these truths, they do share a lot of similarity in the terms of shared parts, plus all of them tend to be super cheap platforms to make restomods, as well as racers that can do tuner, drifter, track, drag, and rally racing…seriously. Also, who does not love a big angry V8 engine in a little car like this one, or an Opel/Opel GT by Buick, anyway? Finally, technically, you all DID get the Ford Mustang, but Ford could not use the name of that vehicle, especially in Germany, as two companies, namely, Krupp and Kreidler, would not give the rights to the word "Mustang" to Ford, as they had the rights to that name in those countries all the way until the year 1978, so if you see an older model Ford Mustang in any other part of the world, then it would be called the T-5. The Ford Taunus was the German variant of what Ford UK, and practically everyone else in the world, got as the First Generation Ford Capri, and what the North American market got as the First Generation Mercury Capri (which, by the way, are also awesome track, tuner, drifter, rally, and drag cars as well).

  2. I'm so glad someone get this car over the pond so americans can see it! Thanks man, beautiful Taunus.
    I owned 4 door '71, 2 door '74, 4 door '81.
Now I'm in Canada moved from Croatia. If I ever win lotto, will buy coupe gxl, get it here and give it to Chip Foose or Dave Kindig for custom resto 🤪😉

  3. Humble driver . . . cool car . . . loving all these foreigners competing with their own foreign cars in DW. I hope it becomes a regular thing and more and more can make it.

  4. This taunus coupe was one of the cooler cars you could have in the 70's here in Europe, my dad had one (also red but with black vinyl roof) and had it nicely resprayed in 1986.
He wanted to hand it over to me when I got my driver license, but than some tugs decided to flip the car on it's roof and total it, I still hate these people.
Would have made such a good car to hotrod and is a sought after model from the early 70's now.

  5. У меня Кортина МК 5 82 года с двигателем от сиерра 2,3 дизель с турбиной Украина

  6. I right away saw that resemblance of an early 70s Maverick. Love how he said if it's a Ford keep it a Ford and if it's a Chevy keep it a Chevy. Hardly hear enthusiasts say that and do it.
And if it's a Mopar keep it a Mopar with a 521 big block.

  7. Taunus looks good to you only because you did not get them in USA. In Europe, at that time area it was as common and cheap as honda civics of today. People envy Ford Mustangs of USA and vice versa in this case I believe.

  8. I always thought Poland made these cars,He said Germany?.427,imagine a 429 cobra jet?,,,,,,,,Its a daily driver,and hauls a trailer,,how cool is that
