How to remove a stubborn brake drum. Watch how to remove a brake drum that is stuck on. I go through the steps so anyone can remove their drum brake.
In this case the drum adjuster was stuck so first try to get it off by wiggling back and forth. Then spray penetrating oil to remove rust between the drum and the seat. Then hit it with a hammer hard. This should free the drum if it is just rusted on. If the drum doesn’t come off, then your brakes are probably stuck open preventing the drum from coming off. If this is the case, cut or drill out the holding pins from the back (that hold the shoes in place) and remove the screws to the brake cylinder and then pull the drum off.

My 1960 Land Rover has a threaded hole that you put a bolt in and turn it to force the brake drum off.
I want to say watch a real mechanic take off drums first then you know this guy has no clue never ever drill out the hold down pins btw nice shirt that explains why it took so long

this is a lot of steps for what a sledgehammer can do in a few minutes. drums are held in by 2 pins in most cases. when you hit it hard enough you will shatter what's left of the shoe material or break the pins which by the way you could on some cars grind off from the back if need be. the whole mess of drum and shoes will be on the ground
gee whiz.. the dam brake shoes are in grooves… beating on cast iron is always a great thing to do…

Went through this a couple days ago. Took 2 hours to get one drum off of a 2003 Ford Ranger and it was on a LOT tighter than the drum in this video.
We have a "special" hammer for jobs like this. A large ball peen hammer with a 12" metal pipe for a handle welded to it. We also used a couple of 24" pry bars, a steel wedge and drilled out the pins.
I've never seen the amount of corrosion that this drum and all of the springs / parts had.
The best part is, once we put the drum back on, it's time to do it all over again on the other side.
4x rivet gun with a flushset have another person pulling while you vibrate it
Heat the drum up with a heat Gun.Sometimes that will work.

Brakes are locked.. stuck in the gap in the drum. Your wiggling to press the brakes down..
Just a few tips put the wheel nuts on a few turns to prevent accidental thread damage to the studs . Buy a real hammer !!! and it is usually a worn drum lip on the preventing it from moving forward so back off the brakes to the max. PS that rear shoe definitely needed replacing . For me what worked great was jacking up the entire rear, sticking it in first gear and whacking it as it's spinning, flew right off.
A few years ago I couldn't remove the drums from my 2000 Taurus. Tried everything and ended up using a portable grinder to remove chunks of the drums. Worked. Needed new drums anyway.
What an incompetent fool. A real mechanic would have had it off in 10 seconds.
Help. 2003 ford expedition. Front rotors not coming out. Tried all that I can think off including watching videos. Rotors very stuck.
