There seemed to be quite a few questions on this video so I decided to make an Re video addressing some of those questions. Part of the reason is because I opened my big fat mouth about making a ‘poor mans type R’ with just a few modifications to a regular B18C engine. I hope this information along with the PDF that is posted over at my forum will help put these issues to rest.

  1. hey man, wish you were near me. Had a local mechanic that had worked at honda as a tech for 15 years.. so he says. He adjusted valves on my gsr and it sill doesn't seem like it's right. I can tell a small difference but there's still quite a bit of chatter.

  2. The type r is pretty much the race car version. With different suspensions dynamics. And body stiffness. And the engine is I bit different. And the gear ratios in 4th and 5th are changed

  3. i have a b18c (jdm) that was burning oil bad.. opened it up to find that the bearings was pretty nasty and that the crank eas hitting the oils squirters. is there anyway to identify what crank is in my b18c. i have read that ppl have beeb swapping in LS cranks. wanna know forsure befor i put it back together. the block pistons rods are all stamped p72. also are the rod bearings supposed to be solid.. like as in no holes or channels in it.. ive nvr seen this b4. even my d15b7 had atleast a hole in the bearing im curious how oil even gets to the bearing..anyhelp would b great

  4. Hello, some help please, this is the second honda civic 93 i owned, they changed the timing belt on both thinking it will resolve pinging issue, but NOTHING,i see u know honda realy well,WAT MAKE THEM to Ping?? I tried high quality gaz NOTHING,please help.

  5. Hey erick, thanks for your videos realy help alot, i have a question here: I have a 95 honda civic with idler problems, i replace the IACV) & i took the throttle body clean it realy good, i ajust the Fast idler valve too & idler problem still.. What can i do? Thanks

  6. Eric I have a serious question! How can a vtec motor just not hit vtec anymore. . My 99 spec b18c (jdm, not usdm) just all of a sudden stop hitting vtec. . I was using a thick oil while track racing and didn't replace it with 5w30 synthetic. . Is there anyway you can help me please

  7. Gsr engines are still very powerful 4 cylinders, a type r is basically a gsr with some extra toys and a tune, I wouldn't mind a type r though lol

  8. dear eric the car guy, make a video about turbos like how they work, what they do, are they good for you car if you was to drive it just a daily car, is it faster….. please respond back, your a really good car manchanic

  9. Not sure what you mean at 2:40 where you say lifters/cams must be replaced as a set, and the cam spins the lifter. On all the lifters I've worked on (though not many) the lifter was in the rocker arm pushing on the valve. I don't know how the cam would "spin" it.

  10. I got one for ya. I have a 94 honda accors ex f22b1 I've done everything known to man to get it out of limp mode and it refuses to run good over 3200 rpm under load it spits n spudders reall bad and rev limits at 4k…

  11. As a auto tech and racecar builder/driver I dont particularly agree withs whats being said in this video. Especially on the benefits of mechanical lifters contra hydraulic lifters. I do like and respect Eric thou so cudos

  12. HEY ERIC, IF YOU DONT MIND POSTING MORE VIDS ON CIVICS AND ACURAS, THAT WILL REALLY HELP ME ON MY PROJECTS, AM SURE A LOT OF PEOPLE WILL LOVE IT, THANXS FROM OHIO TO CALI, STAY UP ERIC AND ALL CAR ENTHUSIASTS!

  13. if im not mistaken, the B18C1 is swapped out for a B18C5 and a different trans with shorter gearing, 5 lug bold pattern, better brakes, seats, i believe a shorter shift throw, steering wheel, all the red emblems, alloy Type R wheels, also the VTEC engagement point on the 2 engines is different, the GS-R hits VTEC at 4400-4500rpms, the Type R is like 5800rpms, no sunroof on the Type R, was only sold in 2 colors in North America, Pheonix/Sunlight Yellow, and Championship White

  14. hey Eric, i have a 95 LS with a JDM B18C, a non Type R, so its 178bhp stock, can you upload some videos on a GS-R, im trying to learn how to do more stuff myself, i can do basic stuff but it'd be nice to know how to do more indepth stuff, soon i would like to go to an Auto school, or atleast learn mechanics somehow, but if you can point me in the direction of any helpful vids for a GS-R owner itll be much appreciated. also, it burns a little oil at high rpm, synthetic help with that or no?

  15. in a need of a rebuild on my b18c4 (europe equivalent to b18c1) and discovered your videos….even though I am not going to do it myself and let the garage do it I still love watching your vids about how to do it….your videos are very accessible to all people and you're doing a great service for us out there…please keep it up, I have subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your stuff…also I am gonna sign up for the forums (I want that pdf lol)

  16. hey i got a 96 gmc jimmy with 284thousand on it and it has a tick when it warms up and it has a bad miss to it too. not a dead miss but a miss to shake everything. it was rebuilt at 200thousand mile. not just a cheap rebuild. a full rebuild. ill try to make a video of it. whould i have bad lifters???

  17. your right on the turbo getting a good take off but kinda pulls back on top end it don't really need it on top end cause the honda motors are high compression engines and are great on top end only

  18. I like this video. I wonder what the specs are for adjusting the clearances on the D-series 2001-2005 engines.

  19. Eric I can see that you love doing what you do, And love sharing your knowledge with people, Which tells me your a very good automotive technician, Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
