If you’re looking for a straight up starter R&R for a 4.0L Jeep Cherokee this is your video. Nothing fancy here just good old parts replacement. If you want to diagnose a starter problem I recommend this video for instructions on that.

  1. Great video to go off of but I can’t get the clip back in is there any tips on how to get it easier. I don’t have access like you do in the video from the top of the car. I just have to go off of a touch feel and I can’t get it.

  2. Thanks Eric! 2000 GC 4.0L. My Duralst starter also had the solenoid plug on the opposite side. No problem. Had alot of trouble getting the red retainer clip out of the plug, and broke it. Still plugs on fine, and doesn't slip off. 1 hour flat, thanks to your video.

  3. what was that support you removed for more access? i have starter out but cant remove bc no room between control arm and exhaust. Thank you Eric, a great mechanic and a great man as well

  4. THANKS MAN I didnt know I had to pull the red tab back so I was stuck, I did it today and put the new one together

  5. Thanks.. One suggestion. In begging, would be better to have a clear idea of symptoms and what car does and doesn't do when turning on, over.

  6. hey man, great video. can you tell me what the name of that support bar is? the one you had to remove, mine seems to be missing, but the bolt holes are there.

  7. hey man, great video. can you tell me what the name of that support bar is? the one you had to remove, mine seems to be missing, but the bolt holes are there. and I seem to have some trans to engine play that may be damaging my flex plate. already replaced the mounts. thanks

  9. Thanks Eric, you took the fear away, smile. With today's cars, it's nice to have a real life idea as to what one is about to get himself into.

  10. Thanks for the video! I am novice with car mechanics and your video
helped me install my starter on my 2004 jeep GC. . I just discover it needs shims on this starter. I am not sure how to set the shims on the starter.

  11. Nice instructional video.. I do have a Grand Cherokee 2011 4X4 Overland and I was wondering if the starter replacement it's the same as the one on the video??. i really want to change it myself and not get robbed by the mechanics.
