  1. Ubuntu phone by BQ is only available in the European Union. If it was globally available, I would buy one. But not recommend others to buy it now.

Reasons- No apps, still little 'beta like', you have to 'learn' a whole new operating syatem

Reason for me buying it – I'll bear all that because I'm an Ubuntu enthusiast!

  2. It should work, but it won't work.
    Here are the reasons:
    1) Canonical hasn't got enough cash. Withouth cash, the destiny is something like what happened to RIM (aka death).
    2) If it works (which is a possibility) and the thing gets popular, it will get shittier by the day. Just like Ubuntu for desktop (which was a great Linux distro until 10.04), the popularity of the distribution will make developers at Canonical go berserk like they went berserk with the Unity shit.
    3) The "entry level" industry will kill it. Apple is so big because they don't have an iPhone 6 minus. It's iPhone 6 or 6 Plus and that's it. The attempt to introduce the 5C was a total failure. If you read the comments at any given app within the Play Store, you'll often see people saying "it didn't work on my Samsung Ace" or "it didn't work on my HTC X" or "it works perfect on my Lenovo. That is because the developer has a hard time to write something that will work on anything. With iPhone, if it's available at the App Store, it will work. End of story.
    4) Connect to a PC? Who uses a PC these days? I mean, seriously… Everyone is moving to the stupid tablet. I use a PC running Debian Linux because I like it. But most people don't give a damn about a PC. Even Intel is trying to move to the mobile market before it sinks in the silicom (aka sand). The profits of all these giants that built PC hardware dropped considerably and companies such as Qualcomm are hitting the sky in profits. A Chinese company such as Xiaomi made more money than Intel last year.

I'm a great Android fan. Or at least I was. I really do hope that Ubuntu catches up. If not, I'll stick to Blackphone.

  3. Ubuntu sounds like a great alternative, I will change as soon as they start selling it in my country! (Keeping the phone updated is something that SAMSUNG should learn!)

  4. This is the most interesting phone i ever seen. Thats why i will order it next week, when the next flash sale goes off!!!

  5. Hi Jayce,
I wanted to ask which Health app is best in android. An app that can work without a smartwatch and can keep track of your daily workout as well as suggest you a few routines that can be done at home or at gym.
    Thank You

  6. Leave aside the spec debate, I don't think this would be a game changer as of now since most users are content with the apps of iOS and Android and normal customers are not aware of this native and non native app comparisons. Better they must cut the price and allow the tech geeks to review for them. That will certainly help them to market their product and os.

  7. Google made 100 billions using free apps ,i do believe that their advisers got paid millions just to tell them" hold your horses on free stuffs", i am asking why Hipchat don't use the same approach and try to make money simply with dumping ads until someone will say, i will pay to remove that shit in bottom of the screen because i am regular user.

  8. I don't see this going anywhere. $195 is a lot to ask for a very low end device. Right now with a contract you can get the LG G3 for free from Verizon, and for the same money you can get a Galaxy S5 or Xperia Z3. If this does come to the states it won't be making any waves. The consumer is not going to flock to this like they did for Android, and this really goes for all the other operating systems that aren't Android, iOS, or Windows. The mobile phone market is so over saturated with companies trying to take on iOS and Android who themselves have cornered the market to the point that developers aren't going to jump on the bandwagon for a new OS without some sort of established ecosystem to back it up.

  9. Technically, a native app is any app written in Java, for android. A non native app would be something developed on a different platform that has been ported to android. Source: I'm a dev.

  10. Hey jeice. Hope i'm spelling your name right. I have a question for you. I recently bought an android all in one pc. In other words a 21.5" tablet. It's really useful but i find myself wanting maximize the screen realestate. What apps do you think would help me with that aim, or what apps do you recommend for the device in general"

  11. Unless this phone has a Apple on it I can't see this going mainstream. Brand loyalty overrides true innovation.
