A viewer named Alex sent me an email offering up his extremely rare 5 Speed Manual e39 BMW 5 Series. The price… FREE! He took very good care of it, but typical with any 20 year old BMW, it came with a few issues, and a crazy back story…

  1. Great job but I cringed when you reinstalled the intake manifold without replacing the 2 hard plastic cooling lines under there… it cast me an engine because the mechanics who did my cooling system refresh ignored them. Not long after, they cracked, lost coolant, overheated the engine and ruined it. My daughter was driving it and she said she was stranded in rush hour traffic on the interstate and by the time she could get out and pull over it was too late…

  2. i love bmw!!! work with those as mecannic every day in holland. I have welded couple off nuts to the leftover bolt, then iff done fast unscrew it. and with offcourse a good penetrate oil… the heat off welding make it also looser.. greets michelle from holland

  3. Stupid, the C of Exp of Al is larger than for cast Fe, and no ordinary hex bolts. No heat enabling extraction possible.

  4. I used to have an E39 528i with the sport package, manual, and same interior trim (except the leather was gray). first owner had done the european delivery (picked it up from the factory in germany and then taken it back to the states themself) and it had a plaque next to the steering wheel in german saying something about it. was a great car, wish i never sold it!

  5. awesome car so sad its been raffled off already i am an e39 enthusiast and currently own a 2001 530ia with m-sport package same wheels as the one alex gave you as well as a 2000 e46 328ci dont get me wrong the e46s are sporty and fun to drive my gf has a 2003 330ci we love our bmws' but the e39s are smooth awesome road cars and so loved by us both that we really would like to find another low miles 5series mine is approaching 190k

  6. “CARLY” has 20% BAD reviews!!! Said it’s my HYPE than HELP… plus the $80 yearly subscription is mandatory to work your device that you OWN… you may as well buy a good reader for $75 or top readers with support $200 one time without stipulations.

Also you can get a $19 reader that can read what CARLY reads

  7. Remove it by shock , use a brass rod supply’s by Matco or Snapon tools place it on the head of the bolt or stud you want to remove then strike it with a hammer usually around ten times- the shock wave loosens the oxidize metal makes it possible for you to remove it this is especially necessary all aluminum engines. I rebuilt engines for 25 years that’s the only way I could dismantle them with having the head bolts breaking off in the block.

  8. Heat then quench with atf repeat a few times. You can spray penitent before the next heat cycle the heat will draw it in before burning it off clearing the path for atf to reach deeper.

  9. Im a Stone Mason out in the Hamptons..where car deals are insane, they only drive them for 3 months a year,if they come out that year,..once a lady gave me the keys and title to an 87 944 t with 56k on it..and said "get it out of my yard"..lol
