  1. I think it's hilarious that Google built their own version of the oculus rift which I think costs about $350 out of cardboard. The most important part is the apps though.

First of all this isn't exactly new tech or software, Konami (the Japanese game developer) made this(or something very similar) about ten years ago for their second PSP game Metal Gear Acid2.The game could be played in 3D using the attached set of 3d glasses included with the game(the ones I used to watch this app).The experience on the PSP didn't have the augmented reality feel(no accelerometers or motion sensor on the PSP) but I'm pretty sure it's the same principle and the same 3d idea.Still really nice. I hope we get to try new experiences soon.

  3. It is actually pretty easy to build at home. You just have to use magnifying glasses instead of the lenses and look which distance the phone must have. If you are finished it is amazing!
