As technicians we all have opinions based on our experiences and sometimes the experiences of others, stop leak seems to be one of those things. In my experience it really hasn’t done much for me and I haven’t seen it perform any miracles but that’s not to say that it hasn’t at one time or another. I welcome your responses on this topic and look forward to hearing your opinions just be nice.

  1. Bars stop leak is for non car people who are too lazy to replace a head gasket i have done several its not that bad really just time consuming but I feel better with a fresh engine

  2. No that was funny as s*** with the ET Elliott White but you are correct it does not work it might work for a minute or a couple of days but it will not do any good of putting that s*** in your vehicle sides make bigger and better problems trust me I know does people do not understand you have moving parts is it going to stop those moving parts from moving is it going to damage those moving parts most likely yes and it will and you'll have wars problem then you started out with

  3. Metalic Seal Tite works amazingly well it i got my compression back the instructions must be followed exactly and don't use the car heater time will tell though

  4. egg whites do work, ive done that twice some years back, only because i was going through coolant fast and needed a way to block it so i could get home, small corner shops often sell eggs so i gave it a go and it worked, once home i pulled the head off and it had a blown head gasket that cased the problem, how long would the egg white last is the question, it got me home about 500k drive but i dont think it last much longer so i would never rely on it as some type of permanent fix, but to get you home yeah definitely worth a go.

  5. Do u think a mechanic will endorse stop leak.no. they would lose the money they charge to fix it. Plus some of them I think they charge way too much. But not all. It's a hell of a job tearing down the motor to replace head gasket

  6. I just put it an 04 bmw 325i, no more leak, heat didn't work 3 days, was panicking but heat eventually came back, I just used the regular stop leak, not for head gasket. Should I replace the coolant or leave well enough alone?

  7. You hit it right on the money. Some dont follow directions. Lol I watched my friend make the mistake of not being patient and ruined his engine completely.

  8. Added to day to my PT, stopped the leak on my water pump, but now the car turns over and idles, but will not accelerate. ?

  9. I agree, for a head gasket I wouldn't take the chance. I might use it to get home. I have used bars leak in radiators when I cant find a small leak and it has worked. The one with the pellets. I have used other brands which has clogged up the radiator which had to be cleaned there after. I have never had the problem with the bars leak pellets. I have never seen build up in the hoses or inlet. Great videos.

  10. K seal works for a fact… few years ago bought a bwr aluminum radiator wasn’t aware that it had a defect. After fighting with BWR company only to find out there where on their way out of business; no response, even through the BBB. I used k seal product as a temp fix literally the same day I decided to ride to ga due to how severe the hurricane was suppose to be even making it to Georgia. Either way it worked perfectly the and back until I had been able to get a skunk to radiator installed. Even more recently, 2012 Mazda CX-7 which did 4 trips to Fort Lauderdale over 4 hours ride and still going perfect. Although I would only recommend using it as a temp fix… bc let’s face it band-aids don’t work forever.

  11. well eric the car guy when my car has a head gasket leak i will try the stop leak before i pull the head. unless water or oil is leaking out the side.

  12. My a pinion I think stop leak can work for small leaks but most people don’t notice the small ones so by the time the stop leak gets put in there’s to much of a gap no amount of stop leak can cure and I’ve heard it can clog many componants down the road and can cause more repairs then just getting it fixed right the first time.

  13. I used it yesterday, and it hasn’t started overheating yet but I’m not convinced. I don’t know much about cars, for those that do, would you recommend that I buy a head gasket and just try my best to put it on myself? I mean, it’s to the point where I can’t afford very much and buying a new vehicle is out of the question

  14. The thing with stop leak is people will pour it in and expect it to perform miracles like seal a head gasket that is already far gone. I do think in a pinch it could prolong the life of a failing head gasket that is just starting to blow and maybe give the owner a little extra time to maybe either save up money for the repair or think about replacing the car all together.

  15. my 2.0 vw hg blew. had it repaired then it leaked again. I used bar hg sealer and the leak dissapeared! Running 100% good now. it was a small leak, only dripped coolant into the engine while cold. But bar hg sealer definitely worked. It left tons of weird fuzzy residue in behind however (can see in the coolant reservoir). I have no idea how long it'll last either.

  16. I got a 10hp boat engine, I suspect the head gasket has blown, it keeps spitting out coolant from the header tank overflow pipe, to change the head gasket would be very simple but what worries me is breaking the cylinder head bolts, everything is so small and it's a 1994 engine and every single fastener is well seized in, I recently changed the coolant pump and broke 2 studs, luckily enough an inch was left sticking out, so I payed a mechanic to remove them, he heated them up with oxy/acetylene, this isn't so simple on a cylinder head, and if I do break a bolt the whole engine will need to be craned out, which is a major headache and great cost.. I really don't know what to do

  17. From personal experience, no it does not work. I used it because my car was over heating. Instant though was "head gasket" so I got some. Made things a bit worse especially since it was an old truck (1979 Ford F-150). It clogged the heater core which then busted and then clogged my entire radiator. Taking short cuts usually makes matter worse. BUT! I gotta admit. Whoever drove this Honda might as well have driven it with no coolant at all. If anything, it's impressive it still kept going.

  18. My issue with Eric is he’s not being honest. I typically ignore his videos because his ego bothers me. Scotty Kilmer seems more down to earth and cares about helping consumers from paying money they don’t have to. A good mechanic is priceless. If you save customers money they don’t forget it. If you don’t, we remember that too. Seals like AT-205 can work IF, the gasket or rubber seal isn’t cracked or to severe. I used Lucas in the past for my now gon LS430 and it worked. Not because these products make miracles but simply because they are for leaks that are minor. Rich or poor we all like saving money. Mechanics 🧰 have consumers by the testicles. It’s nice to be told an alternative that keeps folk out of even more debt. Eric seems to care less how they money is attained as long as he gets it. That’s the world we live in now. Few Scotty Kilmers and millions of Eric’s. Done watching him moving forward.

  19. Hello
I have a 1997 mercury sable (v6) so about 3 weeks ago everytime I started the car it would idle and I wouldn't do anything it would just die out so one day I was driving to work and the car died out I was able to turn it into a parking lot and I noticed that steam was coming from where I put coolant in so I drove it to work and after 2 hours I checked it and I put almost a hole thing of coolant in it and it didn't stop it off so when I got off work I'm driving home them ten gage would get half way go back down twice the third time it went pass the half way mark and went back down to the half way mark so I took it to a mechanic shop and they told me it's a bad/ failure head gasket and they put seal tabs on it to reduce coolant consumption so today I had a friend of the family come look at it he works in a shop plus going to school to be a mechanic and told me that he's 98% its not a head gasket because where its leaking its either a hose or water pump or the radiator can you help me thanks

  20. I like Your Videos and Ive been subscribed to Your chan for years . With that being said , Ive used Bars-leak on 2 different 6 cylinder Chevys that developed intake leaks .
One was a 96 Monte Carlo , the other was a 2000 Monte Carlo .
    It sealed leaks almost completely.
Both of the cars had over 220, 000 when I finally sold them .
I was told by a mechanic , who suggested using it ,that he felt Bars-leak was the only Coolant Sealer that did NOT do any long term damage .
    He was right .

  21. So basically, there is no reason for this video, except to see your impression of ET. You didn't inspect the parts before the stop leak, therefore you have no reference.

  22. In my 60+ years, I have tried a few different stop leak products, and I also draw from the experience of my mechanic father. One kind – and one only – has ever worked, and that is the silver powder stuff. It's great for small hole in radiator, etc. Another huge benefit: That stuff feels slippery in the coolant and I have NEVER seen a water pump go bad with that in the coolant. Lubricates pump, maybe? Whatever the reason, it's worth the price if stop leak for a lifetime water pump.

  23. There's a lot of things cause of leaking or overheat head whatsoever.. Anyway based on my experience some small troubles can create or buildup big problems in diesel or gas engines.. But if you figure it out immediately or trace the trouble and the owner, it's preventing the big cost… Thermostat, sweat water or bad coolant can cause lot of problems..

  24. Say Eric the Car Guy I appreciate this video because I've been going crazy thinking about using Blue Devil and my car has been saying f*** chemicals do it yourself excuse my profanity I appreciate this video

  25. He only sees the people who either already have too big a leak or those who failed to administer it correctly. The rest of us have no need to roll into the shop.
