Replacing Rotors with Tapered Roller Bearings – EricTheCarGuy

I thought I would try putting the website link first this time. I was very happy to make this video since I don’t often see tapered roller bearings anymore. This video shows the step by step process of removing tapered roller bearings, cleaning them, and repacking them. I have thrown in a few tips and tricks that I hope will make the job easier and given you a list of tools that you will need to get this job done. I hope you have as much fun watching this video as I did making it.

  1. put a wad of grease in the palm of your hand and press rotate the bearing to pack it. don't waste your time using your finger

  2. I went through taking my old rotor out and cleaned out the bearings and packed them. After reassembling the rotor and calipers. The rotor wobbles now. I dont understand what I done wrong. Is this normal, I don't remember the old rotor wobbling before I removed it

  3. 2021 before I replace the bearings on my 91 C1500. Mine will have a 383 in it one day like "dad's truck." I bought it new and one day, hopefully later rather than sooner, it will be my son's truck.

  4. Need help. I have a 98 Dodge 1500 2wd and the passenger front spindle nut came off. I saved the wheel from flying off while driving. I think I tighten the spindle nut too tight? The spindle nut has me lost. What am I doing wrong?

  5. Great video. I will sand and lube those dry parts thx. Only video that gives a close up of that back bearing seal and which way the damn thing goes in. Maybe could of used a hardware kit.

  6. THANKS ERIC JUST GOT A 1990 TAHOE AND YES ONE OF THE FRONT IS ATE UP ONLY MORE PASSANGER SIDE ONLY..I PLAN TO REUSE THE SEAL I LET YA KNOW HOW IT GOES ,I HAVE GOOD DAYS AND BAD.. HAVEA NICE HOLIDAY SEASON.. J D

  7. Another good thing about the way you release the piston on the caliper: You get that bleeder screw moving. That will prevent it from seizing in there. Usually they are small screws and when, after 5 years of sitting idle, you want to loosen them: Bingo! They strip or break in there. And you are well on your way to buying a new caliper. So, yeah…loosen the bleeder screw.

  8. Great tips eric! Thanks, from Belgium Europe🇧🇪🍺🤜 , have exactly these on my mercedes 123 from 1983; very helpfull, thx mate!

  9. Clamping the brake hose? Are you not concerned about doing damage to the inside of the hose? Bad idea! Don't clamp the hose.

  10. Thank you Eric. I love these old videos.
Your videos have helped , and inspired me over the years. It has been pivotal in changing the course of my life for the better!
