Defogging Windows – EricTheCarGuy

Here is another for the quick tip series. It rained this week and I thought I would do this short video on how to defog your windows perhaps more efficiently. The video says it all here so I’m going to keep this short.

  1. Eric,, thanks for videos. Hey, when I turn my defrost on, it blows out the AC vents, no defrosted windshield, I’ve tried in ever mode(hot, cold,ac on) it doesn’t blow out the defrost vents. 2005 Honda Pilot,,, any insight??????

  2. oh so you are supposed to use ac for effective defogging

I have never knew this until I driving n the rain in the 2004 Isuzu ascender and I turn on the defrost and immediately the ac kicked on (cannot run defrost without it)

I thought that was absurd however it did a great job on clearing the windshield instantly

So yeah it was just last year that I discovered this

  3. Also make sure the window is clean clean. Do not use that dirty sponge or cloth you have laying around! Instead use proper window cleaning tools and window cleaner.

  4. I found another solution to keep you windows from fogging up unfortunately it doesn't affect the windshield but in the bottom of the doors there are two clips some may have molding on top but under the clips there are holes that clog up very often so take those little clips out and spray the fire out of it with compressed air and you will be amazed how much junk will come out and how much better your windows will look only downside like I said is that it doesn't do anything for your windshield and you have to it about once a week

  5. Never had any issue with defogging my windshield on cool rainy days but just as I was dropping my kid off at school it seems the defogging setting stopped working, I couldn't see out unless I wiped my hand on the windshield, changing temp settings didn't help whether in cold or heat, never had this problem… Air was coming out the dash vents and the temp changed accordingly to the setting but just stop defogging, is something broke?

  6. For those who doesn't have AC so then if u have shave gel apply it on ur windshield after u clean it nicely then buff up little bit until u don't see any streak. Enjoy ur clear windshield

  7. Older GM cars also did this automatically, as they did not have a separate AC button, or Recirculate button.  "Max AC" turned on the compressor and closed the intake vents.  Defrost would turn on the AC and direct the air up to the windshield.  I never saw a car with separate AC and Recirculate settings until my parents got their first import car, a Toyota Camry in 1989.

  8. What is the difference between defrost and defog?  Is there a difference?  Does your tip in this video work for when the car windows get icy?

  9. I unplug the ac trigger wire in winter so when I do use the window setting front windshield it will only turn on the compressor fan and the cooling fan so it will not wear out the compressor faster and yes also plug it back in time to time to make sure the compressor stays lubricated from being unplugged in winter (:

  10. I did this last night after work.. it rained all day and i had accidentally left a window down.. well when i got out of work, i rolled the windows up finally and was all foggy. No visibility.. turned on the AC and i could see again lol.

  11. ive had my car for ages and i was NEVER sure of what i should do with the fog. i found out through trial and error that the AC does something, but its nice to be confirmed 🙂 THANKS!
