Chrysler made a fast car???

It’s always a pleasant surprise to see something out of the ordinary at the drag strip. In this case – a 1987 Chrysler Conquest with a turbo 6.0L swap! And boy does it go FAST – busting out a new personal best: 5.93 @ 120 mph. That’s moving!
We hope we get to see it again sometime soon!

  1. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1U1Pq_3fZUUA_Q-hc0_L7A3zMOZ7uO3gN/view?usp=sharing

I know its too late for this project, but I have been thinking about this swap and how to fabricate it without making a massive hole in the firewall, cutting out a big hole in the floor pan, removing all the climate control equipment under the dash, intruding into the cowl causing interference with the wiper linkage, and worst of all requiring conversion to rack and pinion that can cause bump-steer issues.

The root cause of the problem is not the size of the engine, its the size of the engine compartment. The car needed to be cut an inch or two in front of the firewall and the nose and frame of the car needed to be extended about a foot (30cm). Then using door skins, a filler panel can be fabricated to cover the gap between the door and fender.

Another benefit of extending the frame is the frame extension pieces could be bowed outward to allow more room for headers. I hope this post helps someone trying this same swap. See attached photo-shopped picture.

  2. Imported for Chrysler, owned two of them. Both brands. A 88 starion and a 87 conquest aka starquest. All I have to say is that its one car 🚗 that is great at launching and going from point A to B in a few shifts.

  3. Number one chrysler didn't make it . chrysler imported the cars for mitsubishi .and rebadged it .it was a part of the deal mitsubishi had with chrysler.. fully mitsubishi built..

  4. I have a question as to all of the hate towards LS swapped vehicles.
Pound for pound the LS is lighter smaller and an easier fit for most vehicles and for those that are attempting to get an engine with some support and cheaper to use.
For instance swapping a 6 liter Hellcat motor into a Starion, is heavier, requires more modification to the vehicle and cut out and adjustment of the fire wall just to get it in and to run the exhuast with custom headers that have to be made specifically for the vehicle.
Whereas the LS will just drop in.
So unless you're pockets are as deep as Challenger Deep or you have the skill set required, and a insane amount of time to do it, the LS will be performing at the track and or street, for months maybe years, while you're fighting to put a Hemi into it, just for the sake of what?
    Being a purist?
    It's a Mitsubishi not a Chrysler.
Does Mitsubishi make a V8 worth using?
What's the cost diffrence between an LS vs. An Evo motor with upgrades?
Here in Las Vegas I can get 750-800 HP reliable horse power to the wheels with an LS swap installed for under $10,000 USD less than $6 if I go used with turbos.
Also if your goal is to simply go fast, your gonna break something and that means removing the motor, and or changing stuff until you get it right.
Do again, where does the money and time come from in order to not piss folks off?

    It's your money, your car.
Do what makes you happy, but more importantly the thing that allows you to actually finish the build and get it on the road and enjoy it.

  5. The worst engines Chrysler ever used were mitsubitsi…….and i have a truck with an ls…….i wouldn't swap that torqueless bitch in to anything. My buddies 6.4 hemi will beat the ever loving shit out of it.

  6. Why would u say turbo conquest vs blown Camaro. Clearly that's not a turboed tsi. It used to be til u swapped the motor. It would be cooler if u had it that fast with the 2.6l still in it

  7. Its a mitsubishi starion guys do your research its a 2.6 4inline turbo normally fast and when it was shipped over since in the 80s they had to change the name chrysler conquest soo theres alot of conquest rare to see a mitsubishi starion

  8. Chrysler made many fast cars and innovations but some are too dumb to know that, too busy on the import knob. MOPAR!!!!!! MAGA!!!!!!!!!

  9. I love how the 1st ravs it says turbo conquest vrs blown Camaro it's not a turbo 4cyl its Chevy vrs chevy which makes it not cool if he left it a 4cyl with a massive turbo schooling a v8 it would be a better video

  10. 1320 get ur head on straight Chryslers been making fast cars since before you and your Daddy were born …bad title.

  11. Bad title….Chrysler used to be edgy, innovative and set speed records on a regular. Most of the things that musclecars have now Chrysler did first.

  12. Rode in a brand new one one time because my friend kept referring to it as his road rocket. OK then, show me. Pretty damn impressive, we hit a couple of s curves doing 80 and shot out of those like a sling shot! Not sure about it being Chrysler though. Seems to me it may have been an import. I do remember the Mitsubishi badge and Conquest on the rear of the hatch.

  13. I had a 89 conquest/staireon 2.5 turbo TSI duel over head cam. 5Speed. I done some turbo work/tune an with just few hundred books I was smoken 5.0 stangs an Ls1s in a 1/8 an 1/4 mile. Red light to red light didnt matter in a 1/4mile ran 10.8 134 mph. Not bad for a light car thay only maid 3years of 87 88 89. My top speed in what mitsabishi like to call thir answer to the supra thir staireon my top speed on interstate 81 was 162mph again not bad for some tuning an a few parts my name Boe Pleasant an that was my conquest fun oh the good oll days

  14. No Chrysler never made any fast cars. If you come across omni GLH's NSRT4's or any original hemi car contact my shop asap so we can buy them and get thos shit cars off the road 😏. Got your back guys.

  15. Dumbest title ever. This car is Mitsubishi with a Chrysler badge. And yes Chrysler has made several different fast cars. Ever heard of the Viper, Challenger Hellcat, Charger Hellcat, etc?

  16. Lol it's a Mitsubishi Station! produced between 1983-1990 some will argue only made till 1989 but cars made after The 6th calendar month are always sold as the next model year. The Chrysler conquest tsi and Mitsubishi Starion are the exact same car! only difference is they are rebaged as Chrysler. The conquest and Starion differences are only badges and paint codes. It's the same thing with the DSM from 1989-1999 eclipse, laser, talon by Mitsubishi, Dodge, eagle. only difference's are badges and paint codes. Hope this helps.
