Tackling the challenges of RPM Magazines “Rocky Mountain Race Week”, this freshly Twin Turbo’d Ford Fairlane was put to the endurance test of 7 days of driving, 5 days of racing, and only minimal support! One of the most shocking things about this car is the fact it managed to average 18-20mpg due to the benefits of a 6-Speed T56 Transmission, although the 60’ times were a bit tricky!

OMG 😍. What a sweeeettttt ride. I can attest to the quickness of that type of car body, they look like a kinda big boat but I had a 1966 Mercury Comet 202 2dr sedan sm power plant and surprised that hell outta people with it, especially because of the 3 on the tree. Their rather light for their size. I miss that car… Divorced, don't miss the ex at all. My buddy still has the car that came with it, 1966 Mercury Cyclone GTA. One bad mother. The tires screaming sounds like a scalded dog and wacking the gears…..pure music.

I'm a Mopar guy but the 66-67 Fairlane 427's are my favorite Ford's ever built. I'll take a 66-67 Fairlane 427 or a 63 1/2 Galaxie 427 over a Boss 429 Mustang any day of the week. All the 1963-67 427 Ford's are bad machines whether it's a Galaxie, Fairlane, Comet, Shelby Cobra, or the "Ferrari Killer" GT-40. The Ford 427 had more success than any other engine in the history of American auto racing…Nascar, NHRA, 24 hrs at LeMans, Pike's Peak…you name it and chances are a 427 Ford won it at some point. The earlier high performance Ford's are cool too…particularly the 57 Ford's with the 300 horsepower supercharged 312 and the 61 Starliner with the 375 horsepower 390 4bbl or the dealer installed Tri Power setup which upped the horsepower to 401
