Yes there is a right way to use Teflon tape and it depends if you unroll the tape like Adam or outside. If it unroll from the threads you are paying it backwards.

That tape is mainly for plumbing so water doesn't seep through the threads but I guess you would use it so it doesn't come loose🤷🏽♂️ but yes you wrap it the opposite the opposite way in which you are threading in, so this way it doesn't unwrap while your threading
