  1. I remember when the government changed the maximum strength on the safety chains. I can't remember how it went but they required that anything that was from towing a vehicle or being used as a safety chain must stand a certain 10,000 per?. The old chains were very light and even pulling a car down the road would break. I'm sure these people in the pickup were happy they had the good ones.

  2. Nice photo of the chains! The trailer had BEEFY chains with excellent attachment, compared to some.
I’ve seen too many swing set sized chains, chains twisted to take up slack because they were too long and dragged, chains too short and extended with carabiners or weak nutted links. Chains welded to the tongue haphazardly or bolted incorrectly.
You’ve all seen this. We’ve all considered it.
    People PLEASE check your equipment.
It could save your life or someone else’s.
These chains are, without a doubt, the reason these people are alive today.
And the Trucker and Emergency Responders are Hero’s!

  3. I posted the link to their go fund me, but my comment was deleted. The Go fund me page literally has a link for YouTube, so why is it being deleted?

  4. The couple are now homeless. They were traveling and that was their home. They lost the trailer, the truck and all their belongings. There is a go fund me set up apparently. Could NBC find and post the link please?

  5. This report completely leaves out the semi trucker who stopped and looked over and then hooked spare chains from his rig around the hitch. They were not found by law enforcement at all. That trucker saved the day. Gotta love shoddy reporting.

  6. What if ???
    – They weren’t towing the hitch?
    – the trucker didn’t have spare chains or didn’t stop?
    – the trooper was 10 minutes down the road?
    – the special operations team wasn’t standing by at that exact moment?

    This was a miracle.

  7. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was the backseat driver's fault….turn here, no HERE!!!
In all seriousness, glad all were ok!

  8. We need more heroic stories like these to brighten up our days of just sad news. Bravo and hats off to the rescue crew!

  9. Hooray for the first responders and to the man who first CHAINED that pick up to the back of his own truck!!!!!!!!!

  10. Dude i was having a terrible week because my dog passed away, but this release gave me a nice relief, I'm truly thankful guys keep it up! XOXO

  11. Praise God everyone is ok and their little doggies too. Thank you Lord for brave and courageous people who risk their lives to save others. 🙏🙏🙏

  12. I'm a Brit and I love NBC News with Lester. Wow the rescuers really are Heros. So relieved the couple and their dogs are safe. 👏👏👏

  13. Emergency responders wear…. Jeans and flannel? Were they off duty? Seems I've been mislead by TV shows once again.

(main point here is that a rescue was made, tho.)

  14. Did he really just say that?
"The heroic rescue, less a miracle – and more a reflection of the training, teamwork, and dedication of those who serve"
I am not discounting the training, teamwork, and dedication of the heroes in the story, but to say that it was not really a miracle is just plain asinine. They're definitely was a higher power present here helping both the rescuers and the accident victims.
