  1. In 2010, I went to a local hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland with stomach issues. I was later transferred to a large hospital in Baltimore after developing jaundice. There, I learned that there was a tumor blocking my liver duct—the cause of the stomach distress—and that I had Stage 3 pancreatic cancer. I had no prior family History of the disease and was only 44-years-old at the time of diagnosis.   5. I was disgnosed at 19 years of age. Food allergies created the symptoms while I was in college. Certainly had all of those symptoms presented on the screen. At 31 those symptoms appeared again and I received lasik surgery for this disease. I am 71 years of age today, still here and still managing this disease. After graduating from college in 1972 I became a public school teacher for almost 40 years while managing this disease. I educated myself about the food intake, how to recognize the worsening symptoms as I received my colonoscopies every two to five years. I am presently writing my story about colon rectal and colon cancer to leave as a medical LEGACY for my grandchildren. R.I.P. Chadwick BOSEMAN.   11. At 49, my Dad was having parts of his large and small intestines removed, and had a year of chemotherapy after that. He spent his 50s just having surgeries and chemotherapy. I know he got tired of that. It's no quality of life.

  12. The part that really annoys me about the stuff the doc says is the "high risks" of patients. I literally had to push for a colonoscopy at 43 since my Dad and brother both had it. My Dad died at 59, brother had a stage 1 at 45. Then they agreed. They still wouldn't let me get another til this year I'll be 50

My Mother died of colon cancer at age 72; I first discovered polyps were in my colon at age 42; my eldest son died of colon cancer at age 41; my youngest son was born with Hirschprung's Disease shortly after birth and a foot of his colon was removed — several years later, the surgeons were able to re-attach the remaining colon to his anus and he has lived without serious problems since. The surgeons recommended that all three of my grandchildren have colonoscopies beginning at age 20, even though insurance will not cover the surgery for them at that age. In this case, it appears that colon cancer is in our family's DNA. If you have any relatives diagnosed with colon cancer, be sure to have the rest of the family receive a colonoscopy — it can save their lives…

  19. Finally saw 'Black Panther.' And you don't have to be black to feel sad about Boseman's death. You just have to watch his work closely. Then you can see that a very soulful actor just died. It was a very complicated role, and the movie people needed someone to show vulnerability and fear and uncertainty, as well as courage, kindness, intelligence and he had to look like a warrior too. Some people think comic book movies are for idiots. You can go to the stars with Marvel, these days, the same way Boseman did as an actor.

  24. She didn't mention the faster, easier stool-based test that can be done. It's not as conclusive as a colonoscopy, but this test is covered by insurance and a decision can then be made, based on the results, whether or not to proceed to the more invasive test everyone dreads.
