No better time to start homeschooling than now. It's just too dangerous for teachers and kids. Especially when said teachers went to the grocery store to get food every week and walking next the piling bodies of store clerks (many teens for summer jobs) who were forced to stock the shelves day after day dropping like flies by the minute.
It is sad that many teachers are so alarmed by the lack of proper testing and other safety procedures that they feel the need to take these drastic measures (striking, filing lawsuits). However, their fears may be understandable; there are more reports of a rise in kids' infection rates, more spikes in schools that have re-opened, and studies showing a general increase of the virus activity among kids. Dr. Fauci and the Coronavirus Task Force have not really provided insight into any of the above, and have not addressed or remedied the lack of testing.
Dr. Fauci's advice does not include mass testing the entire school population on a regular basis; his advice implies that there is always a chance that a school will likely have a few infected kids on their campus at a given time. However, couldn't even one or two infected kids in an enclosed, crowded classroom infect many? Is it known if mask wearing /social distancing are effective in completely preventing the transmission of this virus among kids in this type of setting? Little is known at this time how kids transmit this virus. Are schools supposed to basically take a chance with kids becoming infected at this early stage of reopening? Again, Dr. Fauci and the Coronavirus Task Force have not aggressively remedied the lag in testing after all of these months (the amount of testing has even gone down in recent days). It seems as if there is a terrible lack of oversight of testing by Dr. Fauci and the Coronavirus Task Force after all this time. Some may wonder if, given the crisis level of the pandemic, they should have been held more accountable for this lack of oversight?
Given how lethal this virus is, how concerned many teachers and parents are, how difficult it may be for kids to realistically wear a mask, social distance, and continually practice good hand hygiene all day, and the likelihood that a vaccine may be approved with a guaranteed supply in late fall/early winter, would it have been a little safer to close the schools for only a few months longer, and wait for a vaccine to be administered to school populations? Why has Dr. Fauci not mentioned this? Had the efficacy of mask wearing/social distancing been tested on kids as well? Based on the above, should Dr. Fauci have re-considered his usual advice of mask wearing/social distancing when suggesting it to kids, and suggested instead that schools delay their re-opening until a vaccine is available?
Close the schools. Make the leftist teachers fearful that curious parents might be listening in to the indoctrination of their kids if they have to teach virtually.
