  1. Covid 19 won't be the only historical issue to create an even wider gap for our ELLs and at-risk students. Colleges right now really need to re-think and restructure the curriculum content that is being taught in colleges for future teachers. Thank goodness teachers love what they do and will strive for the very best they can offer their kids each and every year. Now is the time to start thinking outside the box on how to aid our youth with their education.

  2. When you come to another country your first priority should be to learn the language to navigate into society. No more excuses. Learning English should be required.

  3. In regards to education, nothing replaces the old fashioned physical classroom setting and the best quality education is still the old fashioned traditional in person, in the physical classroom learning where students are fully engaged (physically, mentally, and emotionally) in learning. There is no online substitute to that and virtual and Zoom classes cannot provide the opportunity for that. Staring at a computer screen for several hours a day, to me, is not going to school and getting a quality education.

  4. Tell the truth! ELLs are always behind and unsupported when school is in session normally! Look at the data! There is so much wrong with the education system in the US! We're still going to keep on teaching though!

  5. When I was starting school back in the 60s my language was fround on and made to speak English and not to speak my language of chiricahua language native American now they accommodate foreign children with alternative methods and still they complain force them to learn the English language like native Americans were force to learn it

  6. "ELL students left behind amid COVID-19 and virtual learning" thereby motivating us, the people of America, to redouble our efforts to rapidly find out at any given moment, including even while On-line, who among us are unwittingly contagious (i.e. pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic) in order to convince them to call their doctor and self-quarantine per their doctor in hopes of stopping this pandemic so that our ELL/ESL students can resume in-person learning at all our schools here in the U.S.

  7. Hating the fuckin fact they had 6 months to get theyre programs in order and my little bros school in texas is being pushed till September because they didnt have a plan ready… Fuckin killin me

  9. I still can't believe that at this day and age that this is still an issue. That parents are still stupid enough to not let their children learn the language while they're young.

My mother spoke no English and yet my brother and I entered kindergarten knowing how to speak English, and this was back in the 70's.

My mother knew, that to get ahead in this country, one needed to learn the language and then get a good education. So from day one, she would turn on the TV and put on Sesame street and Looney Toons cartoons.

I would understand if they came here at the age of 4 or older. Not much you can do at that point. But if they are brought here as infants our are born here, there is no excuse for them not to be able to learn the language before they enter school.

P.S. children's minds are like sponges, I should know, all 3 of my grandchildren speak 3 language and that was all before kindergarten.
