  1. I have 2 autistic children, one mild and one severe nonverbal with sensory processing disorder. They really need that in person instruction, and I just found out a couple weeks before school starts they are delaying in person now until November everyone does remote with attendance and accountability on assignments. My 12 year old who's mild will do ok it'll be difficult but she's organized and a hard worker, she just really wanted to go to school. My 6 year old son who is severe it's going to be near impossible I could barely get him through a 15 min zoom meeting. I may even have to quit my job..which comes with its own challenges because homeschooling doesn't pay well lol. I also get scolded a lot for wanting to send my kids in "don't you care about their health"…no one understands us special needs parents have no choice…very much a catch-22.

  4. I know this pandemic would make the world more difficult for special needs children but isn’t the pandemic making the world more difficult for everybody? It appears to me that we are going to be in a holding pattern for a while and whether we like it or not and whether it is convenient or not we must be a little more patient.

  5. My younger brother is autistic and I was just graduating with severe OCD. It’s such a stressful situation deciding on if he should go back to his school this year. We live in New York so we’re better off than other states for sure, but he goes to a melting pot school from all over and it’s already not in our city. His grades actually went up home at home, but he truly needs socializing. I certainly regressed being home but my OCD has entirely me trapped at home during this and I just personally had to push off college after graduating this year. I want to be a teacher one day so all of this debate has meant a lot to me, and my main focuses on who needs to be able to go back are special needs children, and those escaping abuse or neglect at home. If you can be educated from home, you really should be, so those who have to go back are safer. I know it’s harder for younger kids but for high schoolers it should be optional, and teachers should be compensated for juggling both in school and online students. Ideally most would be home. Money should go to social workers and outreach and tech for children at home instead of threatening to defund schools. I’m sad we failed children and schools so horribly here.

  6. There are alot of children and teens, adults with special needs and they are being forced to believe a lie about themselves which makes them worse. Blackmailing people is the human norm of people who have face at others expense! People who don't care about your children will not help them properly. Clearly people who do care though and are careful will be helping them properly. *

  7. Well of course they are. This is where a national plan comes into play, which should’ve been led on the department of education. I wonder if Obama and Biden have gotten n the phone with the 50 governors and mayors and helped them with all the moving parts from a perspective of an administration that did battle a pandemic, excuse me, 4 pandemics

  8. I have a moderately severe autistic 6 year old and it has been HELL without school and his speech therapy. Just me, stuck with him at home, while he regresses all the progress he made before the virus.
