This condition occurs in children and adults from many viruses…coxsackie, adenovirus, entervirues, etc. Though rare, we’ve known about it for decades. The press is using this as sensationalism. Your kids have had these viruses before and millions upon millions never had this happen. Good pediatricians should follow kids responsibly after a viral illness and let parents know what to look for. It is VERY rare.
It is called Reye’s Syndrome.. any type aspirin based med will attach with any virus. Z-Pack is covered with a coating that is aspirin . All so the Antiviral they should be using is Valtrex. Since the CDC felt that Reye’s was gone due to “WARRING LABELS” they took it off the mandated testing for it. I survived after being in a coma back in 1974. But there are 5 generation of Medical staff that are not taught about it.
