10. I am also so happy for "Mayor Pete" in his new role as Sec. Buttigieg (Can we call him Secretary Pete?). As someone who is A. on a fixed income since a career ending spinal cord injury and B. lives in a rural, cold climate, I am one of those people who wishes an electric car was something I could do but I can't afford a new car of any kind and there are no short drives for me. There are also no electric charging stations and a four hour drive to go see my mother would be how long if I had to stop and charge an electric car?, (Then the same 4 hour drive back home). I hope answers can be found to let more of us utilize green energy solutions, regardless of where we live. God bless America and thank you to Secretary Pete for his service. I can see him in the White house one day and I look forward to it.

19. I grew up when the big cities had electric trolly cars (my grandfather was a trolly car operator in Washington DC) but they stopped trolly cars for more gas powered polluting buses and dug up all the train tracks. I used to make signs for inside the Amtrack Trains back in the 1980's.

22. Good government is key, essential. Regarding public transportation, the USA is shameful. Europe is much more advanced. Take a look at Sweden and Denmark. Sweden has very high taxes. But their citizens are so well taken care of and they don’t complain. They are happy and know that when they are old, they’ll live a quality life, cared for in every way. I’ve been there and spoken with a large cross-section of their population. These countries have windmills/wind power and they work fine in extreme cold. They are well cared for too. Proper care of equipment, not placing blame, accountability are so very important. With politicians like Ted Cruz, a failed power grid is not surprising news. These Northern European countries like Finland all acknowledge climate change too. Facts speak instead of biased radical politicians.

23. We're stationed in Germany, and every time I go back to the States I'm appalled at the lack of infrastructure investment. It reminds me of Eastern Europe under the Communists. The Europeans (except the Italians) are always working on their roads. Almost all parking garages, even at the grocery stores, have electric car chargers. People are installing them at their homes. They have special parking places with car chargers. The wealthy and corporations paying taxes would go a long way to pay for what the country needs.

24. Compared to Japan, S.Korea and the EU, the US is an infrastructure and mass transit backwater. Most Americans have no idea how behind they are. In fact some Americans don't even care because they simply have no desire to have their taxes raised in order to enter into the 21st century.

Recently, Boeing has been working its way out of the Seattle area, I thought great, we should be moving away from airlines as predominant means for travel – the fuel alone is an environmental contaminate. These huge airline plants should be re-tooled for high-speed rail, and Pete will be the one to move this change.

Good interview, until you veered off into our government officials professing their "christian" faith, which, if you'd please read the Constitution, is NOT even allowed in our government, much less as a topic of professional discussion. (And I thank Sec. Buttigieg for pointing out that we are supposed to uphold the separation of church and state.)
    A politician's religion is NONE of my/your/our business, nor should it be part of a public servant fulfilling their duties. If they want to be guided by it in private, fine. But as a student of American history, I'm troubled by this insistence so many have these days on wearing their religion on their sleeve. A citizen's private beliefs should remain private and not be a topic of discussion — especially when that citizen is a political figure charged with upholding our (secular) Constitution. As I hope you recall, ours is indeed a secular government in which simultaneously EVERY and NO religion is allowed to have a say. *Religion is not supposed to be relevant in a true constitutional democracy striving to be a "more perfect union". Period* Jus' sayin.

He is so correct about the need for more federal money being invested in our transportation sector since there has not been changes made to this sector since the Eisenhower administration and it is suffering badly. I think of the bridge collapse in Minnesota years ago and other bridges which need to be replaced. The railways are hurting also and the bad lines have caused many accidents around the country. The airline industry also need help as well and it will take Democrats in Congress to pass any legislation to get help to these sectors.

36. I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories but less than 3 minutes in what he said collided with my recent viewing of the misery in Texas and I said "holy crap". As a Canadian I was astounded that the Texas electrical grid is so vulnerable. What if it isn't as crippled by cold as they claimed? What if the fossil fuel industry in Texas is intentionally making electric infrastructure seem less reliable than it is to preserve their gasoline markets? If so it's unconscionable and criminal but then so is the price gouging I've heard reported out of Texas.

    Someone explain to me how that's totally crazy please so I don't have to think on it any longer.

Having served his country he knows there is a certain amount of logical planning, reviewing past effectiveness, history and realistic MOVING FORWARD. If they just plopped something down on Mars, society and the ELECTED, PAID Leaders can create plug in stations. The amount of environmental events are screaming at you. and costing a hefty more than the investment. The truth is at the end of your nose.

40. Tax payer dollars should not be used for charging stations, this is a commercial sector business. The feds did not pay for gas stations and pump installation. Amtrack has not expanded because the ridership is not there. Do a poll and find out how many citizens have an interest in train ridership and expansion. Airlines are our a glut on economy for bailouts and environmental pollution. The whole of federal government needs to find their own rail of fiscally responsibility and not focus on what they want, but what the American people want. Yeah, keep making it the responsibility of the American people for pollution. Especially when the military uses a third of all petroleum the U.S. produces.
