Huge python lunges at snake catcher’s face in Australia | ABC News

“What’s with the attitude?!?”

A snake-catcher in Australia got more than he bargained for when a massive python in a resident’s pantry repeatedly lunged at his face. The snake was eventually safely removed—to the huge relief of everyone in the house. https://abcn.ws/3buOB5n #snake #python #carpetpython #snakecatcher

  1. Bloody hell folks – it's just a cranky carpet python. Chill out:) You all seem to think Australia is replete with deadly wildlife, but really, it's not that bad. While cranky's bite would hurt like a mother, it is non-venomous, being a constrictor. It never really got that close either. Just a few warning strikes. This fellow is eminently worse and you can step on him while he's sunning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk8ySQjmLFI

  2. Your a better man then me! I’m a big tough guy but don’t do snakes! I’m not afraid of them I just don’t want to fool with them other then running them over with the car 😂! That’s as close to getting me to take care of a snake myself! I had a big black snake in my garage last year and my woman was screaming get it I said hell no I ain’t going near it! I said it ain’t bothering me I ain’t gonna bother it and she went and got one of my buddy’s and he walked in picked it up and threw it in the back yard unharmed! I said see told you I didn’t have to touch it! 😂

  3. Well done gentility snake catcher. Luckily this snake does not have a venomous bite. When I lived in northern NSW we had a resident wild snake of this breed and size in the open rafters in our living room. We were never scared as the snake was a peaceful and beautiful resident. I would be alarmed if I found a snake inside my house with no easy escape route only if it was a different highly venomous Australian snake such as the :-
Eastern brown snake. (Pseudonaja textilis) …
Western brown snake. (Pseudonaja mengdeni) …
Mainland tiger snake. (Notechis scutatus) …
    Inland taipan. (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) …
    Coastal taipan. (Oxyuranus scutellatus) …
    Mulga snake. (Pseudechis australis) …
    Lowlands copperhead. (Austrelaps superbus) …
    Small-eyed snake.
WHEN IT COMES TO self-defence, Australia’s snakes have things pretty well covered. We share our continent with about 170 species of land snakes, some equipped with venom more toxic than any other snakes in the world.

But bites are actually quite rare in Australia and, since the development of anti-venom, fatalities have been low – between four to six deaths a year. This is in contrast to India, for example, where bites may reach one million a year, with over 50,000 deaths,” says Associate Professor Bryan Fry, a herpetologist and venom expert at the University of Queensland. “Snake bites are very, very rare [in Australia] and often the fault of the person being bitten. Most bites occur when people are trying to kill a snake or show off.”

Most snakes would rather slither away from humans than fight them. “Snakes don’t perceive humans as food and they don’t aggressively bite things out of malice. Their venom is used to subdue prey that would otherwise be impossible for a snake to eat,” says Dion Wedd, curator of the Territory Wildlife Park, NT. “If their only escape route is past a human with a shovel, then they are likely to react in the only way they can.” Well done again to this snake catcher (and releaser) for your gentle expertise.

  4. Worst snake wrangler i have ever seen. he was tempting fate and daring the snake to bite him. Not a safe way to handle a dangerous snake.
