Latino means Latin and these are the Latins: Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards and have been Latins for more than 2000 years since the Romans. The people in your story are "Latin Americans" and they must use their Race to identify themselves like we all do or use the name of the country of their origin like Mexican, Honduran, Cuban… or just "Latin Americans". The term Latin/Latino it's about Romance languages and Roman Latin Culture. It cannot be used as a personal identification. For personal identification RACE and Country of origin must be used and not Latin, not Latino, not Latina, not Hispanic and not the latest invention "Latinx". Blame Mexican Chicano Frank del Olmo for creating this identity problem for the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas.

I’m a chronic ill, below 65, minority, Medicaid and disability recipient. I am living in a not quite vulnerable neighborhood (Hudson valley suburbia) and rather savvy with my tech skills and STILL CANNOT figure out when I’m going to be able to get my arm on a vaccine and if I’m going to get 1 in time for it to be worth a hill of beans against the new variants. If people don’t want a shot, I'll be glad to take it, please. I have been isolating for over a year now. Not seeing anyone. Not going anywhere but walking to the nearby grocery store and back. Yes, I walk, can’t afford a car, so hoping I can walk to vaccine location, too.
