I am skeptical of the convictions. The acts alleged occurred many years ago. The circumstances were ones in which very career-ambitious women were seeking the favor of a man who had the power to advance them. The scene is one in which women are using past injustices to advance current political and personal goals. I don't doubt that Mr Weinstein exacted sexual payment for his beneficial influence. The question is did he use force to do that, or did the women find his help for their ambitions an offer they could not refuse?
The standard in criminal convictions is proof beyond reasonable doubt. "Murky" circumstances mean reasonable doubt. Those circumstances have not been exposed by the trial, because the media have not reported the testimonies and the cross examinations of the prosecution's witnesses, out of "kindness" to them or to conserve space and time. The public cannot judge the testimonies they have not heard.
Finally, this is a time in which powerful, white males are game for public reproach and punishment, if possible. They are the largest fraction of the ruling elite that has brought us nothing but costly wars and deteriorating economic conditions, huge debts in the service of major fraudulent banks, and a new nuclear arms race, while the planet melts, dries up and roasts.
think that many women do not know how to value themselves and let themselves to be used in exchange for fame and success. what Weinstein did was abhorrent but the attitude of these women is unacceptable. While they were young and beautiful they didn't complain about anything because they wanted to take advantage and act in more films. Now they are at the end of their careers and have nothing to lose and they decided to destroy the guy they also used. Everything was an exchange of favors.
Because of this "me too" movement, women are losing space and credibility. If these women had complained and screamed at the first attempt, I would be proud to be a woman.
Basically they are asking the jury to consider Weinstein's "character". Yet asking about the character of an accuser is not allowed via Rape Shield Laws. #equality Glad they are treating everyone equally.
