Most volcano tourism is from crater rims 100s if not 1000's of feet from caldera floors, not on the floor, not next to a highly acidic lake, not in what it obviously the historic ejecta path from eruptions – all tourism was centered in the blown out crater side. The other 3 sides of island even had some beach line vegetation. This was NOT a quiet volcano, last major eruption was just 6 yrs ago, with two more in the last 20.
Adventure tourism is different from life threatening tourism. Do you skip the helmets biking zip lining water desert hiking the back up chute sky diving just cause the guides say no problem just sign this waiver and off we go?
I'm all for freedom, less law, but note these tourism cos all USED THE LAW to shield themselves – seems disingenuous to say we can't have laws protecting people from risk but can have laws protecting business from the same risk. Those waivers aren't worth a thing if the tourism company's can't prove due diligence. I look forward to courts ruining all those who profited and obviously made no effort at risk assessment, mitigation, emergency preparedness, due diligence. Boiling hot waters steam acid lake supersonic venting of gas water steam and the tourism cos let people walk around in shorts and sandals without at least keeping masks on at all times. Trails not marked, no rope line back to shore. Was there even one guide in oversight evaluating changing state of volcano, one charged with 'noticing' if thermals were hotter, geysers higher, stench thicker? There obviously were NO shelters at all. FYI I live in a big dangerous city and have met people who don't think we should have as many police, as much building security etc as it's a bother saying "its a dangerous city you just have to expect being mugged beaten robbed raped… and many a property owner who doesn't want to spend money or pay taxes to provide better security. There is a difference between the inevitable and inviting the inevitable to happen.

What would be wrong with boating around the volcano? Why go up to the crater? You can see that imagery through drone cameras. Having to step over streams of battery acid on a barren rock in the sun seems like not a lot of fun.

I'm sorry but what part of island made entirely out of volcano seemed safe? I'm just curious…I don't feel sorry for them. There are places that people, white people, shouldn't WANT to go. Plus not only that, with technology being the way it is, we can literally detect volcanic activity for weeks prior from hundreds of miles away. I'm sure they knew this was going to happen. So now folks are about to die because of a sense of adventure.
Everyone need to be responsibilities that are ever to save live they put them out but someone lose their live where they need to recover that they make sure that everyone my love twice and families or other friends that are over well have to be like to to all of you this everyone had to be tremendous of a rescue and always to have a responsibility
Why was there not any tracking on Volcanoes, especially when it's open for tourists? No warning? Was there a tourist guide?
