When Ashley Loring HeavyRunner, a 20-year-old college student, vanished from the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana this summer, her older sister Kimberly Loring thought of a promise she once made.
“When we were young, we were in the foster care system,” Kimberly Loring told ABC News. “She told me, ‘Don’t leave me,’ and I told her, ‘I would never leave you, and if you were to get moved, I will find you.’”

Young women need protection. However peaceful, they should all be taught in various ways & means of protecting themselves. Women alone in the world need to always travel with someone truly safe, & never alone. Never hitch-hike, nor ride along with anyone. Not even rangers or officers. Most violent abuse is from someone known to the women. Usually a partner. Most of life's safety & security comes from being in healthy relationships. Be cautious & open-eyed, especially with dating. Build strength in numbers, in health & confidence, in self-protective skills, & in safety of transportation for these women, at all times. Require all rangers & officers on your land to have a female officer always with any men who are allowed on your land. No one is above suspicion. Act accordingly. Speak openly with all young women about these issues.
All part of a plan…..Follow the money trail and you will find the culprits and generally the ones your gut suspects anyway. All these years later and they are still being attacked.
