Who is paying the tariffs? Let's look at a simple example. Before tariffs, I buy a product in China for $100 that I sell in the U.S. for $110. Trump then slaps a 10% tariff on my product. Now my cost is $110. I want that same profit so do I increase my product price to $120 ($110 + $10) and plan to make the product in say Vietnam with lower costs (no tariffs) but significant costs in setting up operations in that country? China does not want me to move so they devalue their currency by 10%. Now my product costs me $90 not $100. I pay the 10% tariff on the $90. So now my cost is about the same at $100. I sell the product for $110. So who paid the tariff? Technically I paid the tariff but did my cost change? Not at all. The Chinese paid the tariff by lowering the value of their currency. To date the Chinese have devalued the Yuan by over 15% since the tariffs. Expect the Chinese devaluation of the Yuan to continue. This is why the U.S. recently labeled China a currency manipulator.

We messed up by allowing china so much control over so many goods. Its bite the bullet now or end up like venezuela in the long term. Trump should hold out, no matter how bad it gets. Even if every farmer suffers, and they lose everything, he should keep pushing for China to break. Trump is a great negotiator. He's not losing any money fighting China!

Tariffs collected are then being given to the farmers. Any supposedly gain in tax cuts is offset by the tariff tax .
