So, living mostly outside the country, I never watch network news. Boy have things changed. Tonight I watched ABC World News Tonight and was appalled, really beyond my capacity to adequately express. Journalism is, if not stone cold dead in the USA, then certainly dying its last gasp. What I witnessed tonight was not “reporting.” It was a polemical screed—transparently rigged to hammer public opinion into conformity with a political agenda.
In short, these “reporters” blatantly lie. They just lie.
David Muir and his colleagues, in an embarrassingly juvenile breathlessness contrived to pass as vital urgency (pretty awful acting, especially Muir’s ham-actor gestures; Walter Cronkite never needed anything that hokey) run “small print” past the viewers like the worst imaginable used-car salesman. They want the audience to absorb it without knowing what they’re absorbing, which is the quintessence of propaganda.
So, David Muir intones ominously that Donald Trump has reversed his position on “The Chant” that Trump had said the day before he wasn’t happy about. Muir asserts it as a fact, which one must assume means either that Muir is psychic and reporting directly from the interior of the president’s mind, or that Donald Trump has announced “Changed my mind. Actually love that chant.” Naturally, you think, “Hmm. Let’s see this.”
And what does ABC run? A byte from the Oval Office with Trump insisting on his affection for the people at that rally, and that they are patriots.
That’s it. That’s the goods Muir&Co. produce to underpin their moronic fabrication that Donald Trump has reversed his position. In the two-dimensional PC-template universe they insist we must occupy, there is no room for the unfathomable subtlety of a president who isn’t crazy about something part of a crowd shouted but still loves that crowd. At least, they don’t WANT there to be room for it. Not with this president. So they do their damnedest to make sure there isn’t.
I don’t know which is more chilling: the unlikely possibility that Muir&Co. are genuinely that mentally stunted, or the likely one that they’re not and are perfectly aware of the intellectual fraud they’re perpetrating. Either they’re really that two-dimensional and expect us to be, or they’re not and …expect us to be.
Either way, this is a sociopolitical horror to behold.
There were other things in tonight’s ABC news that bolstered my impression, but let this one more suffice: their unqualified, verdict-like reference to Trump’s “racist tweet.” That’s not reporting, that’s party indoctrination.
I’ve been away a long time. I really didn’t know it had gotten this monstrous. Helps me understand that much better why Trump won in 2016.
The two black people are having a classic black conversation conditioned by white liberalism, which is to hop from one minor incident to another , all woven together to make it look like there’s a vast conspiracy against blacks. Incidents so minor that by designed focus , can’t be fixed because they don’t rise to the level worthy of a collective solution, but can serve as excellent grist for the fanatical victimizing mill. But You can create a vain Intelligence by shrinking the universe around you, and a false courage by creating straw-racist -boogeymen
