  1. Yeah because the Red Sox lost the series because of ONE! damn play .. seriously people .. Bill you deeply deserve to be in eternal peace and I certainly hope you are 🌹

  2. You could do everything perfectly, but the cruel reality is that everyone will only remember the one time you didn’t.

  3. Life long Met fan here. Bill Buckner was a great player and absolutely to me will be remembered as that and that ONLY. He was unfairly shut out and judged because of one play who played with injuries the entire series. The man left his heart on the field. He earned my respect as a decent person and an excellent and outstanding player. RIP .

  4. We are decidedly poorer for Mr. Buckner's walk with us having seen its end. I believed that far too much was made of that single incident which is decades in the rearview mirror. Now, Paradise is Bill Buckner's for eternity. So long, Bill Buckner, we hardly knew ye.

  5. Thanks to Bill Buckner for getting us there in 1986.If it wasn't for him.We couldn't have gotten to that point .RIP to two players who always played the game the way it should have been played.Buckner and Hendu. Two great teammates and classy guys.

  6. Why didn't the report mention the other teams he played for. I'm in Chicago and he played for the Cubs for 8 years. Major League Baseball does not start and end with New York and Boston.

  7. John McNamara was to a certainty the reason the Reds lost in 1986.. What the hell was Dave Stapleton doing on the bench in late innings of this game when he came in for Buckner in the other games? Anyone ever try maneuvering on a wonky ankle? And the Boston fans who heckled Buckner were Southie losers anyways.. I guarantee half are dead now and the other half are on meth. Godspeed Bill

  8. Wow, never heard of him before this (not into baseball) but my heart is heavy because abcNEWS shouldn't have mentioned anything that would bring up sore memories, especially since they had that statement from his wife and the other MLB player. They could've honored his legacy in so many beautiful ways.

  9. It's sad and horrible even in his death the media cant seem to celebrate his great career but focus on that mistake in the world series. I hate that the media is so dam negative today. We all know the story talk about his full body of play in career not just this one play.

  10. If after two were out the Red Sox relief pitchers hadn't given up three straight singles and thrown a costly wild pitch and if the Red Sox manager, who knew Buckner had an injured ankle, hadn't sent him out there to play first in that inning then the ball would never have gone between his legs. And losing that game only tied the series and sent it to Game 7. So how come Bill Buckner got all the blame?

  11. Look at Bill’s stats for that season. He was a major reason they got there.. The ball pass under his legs hurt, but we had a great year… Thank you for those memories Bill….

  12. RIP Bill. You handled everything like a gentleman and should never have been defined by one play. One of the better players in the game, over 2700 hits and hardly ever struck out.
