Rather than the Social Engineering of the Cadets graduating from West Point as a former Combat Infantryman decorated during the Vietnam War, I would have vastly preferred they produce actual competent Combat Capable Officers who can think for themselves and adapt to combat. How do you get appointed to West Point?
At minimum, send a request to the two U.S. Senators from your state, your Congressional representative in the House of Representatives and the Vice President. Begin seeking nominations in the spring of your junior year, or as soon as you apply to West Point. I looked this up because I'd forgotten these exact details.
Congratulations! I've heard that to get into West Point, you have to have a letter written for you by a senator or something like that, to get in. You have to be recommended this way. Not anyone can get in.
