5. Wow…some of the comments in this section are so incredibly selfish and frightening. The fact that people think it's perfectly fine to not divulge to a child who they are, their background, their medical history, etc. baffles me to no end. People are so wrapped up in their own selfish desires to have children that they never even consider that child's life beyond being a baby. I am adopted and have NO rights. I (as well as the woman in this story) have every right to have the same biological background information that others take for granted so that I can make smart, informed decisions in regards to MY own adult life. We have have a right to know our complete medical history, a right to know the chance(s) of potentially passing down genetic diseases (so that we can make informed decisions about whether or not to have children ourselves), the right to know whether we are dating or even marrying first-line blood relatives, etc. It is disgusting that society has deemed it more important for adults to selfishly acquire all of the accessories than it is for a human being to have a basic understanding of who they are and what biological matter they are made of. It's incredibly selfish and destructive.

30. I'm not trying to minimize the moral issues here, but this is very much a catch-22 situation. This woman wouldn't exist if not for the doctor's deception; if her sperm donor were the man she originally thought, she wouldn't be who she is.
