I understand charity and doing good for people but Haiti has been such a dangerous area for so long and has been on US traveling warning for just as long. In order to do good, You need a safe environment. In area like Haiti with such poverty, it does not matter if you are religious person or you are there to do god's work. They want food, housing, and money which they think they can get by kidnapping since the missionary shows up with money and goods.

  25. Some missionaries don't understand the basic principles of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. You have to first provide stable food, safe water, shelter, and physical safety before you can start preaching what would be nearer the top of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Missionaries hand a bible to homeless starving person, then the missionaries leaves the starving homeless person on the street with a bible in their hands while the missionaries return to a nice hotel to eat dinner and sleep in a comfy bed. Meanwhile the church congregation back in the USA that gave the missionaries money is delusional about how the money is spent.

I remember, in the 1970s, when there were so many sky-jackings, the high jackings of airplanes full of families and children, my husband and I had some of his business friends over for dinner and the conversation turned to an ongoing sky-jacking. All the men, including my husband, and all the men’s wives (who all agreed with their husbands), said that you can’t pay the ransom demand because that would encourage more sky-jackings. They were parroting the media who were all parroting each other, and not one of them thought beyond what the popular thing to say was.

    Everyone at dinner had children, so I asked them if they would want a ransom paid if their child were on the plane. Silence. Hostile silence, including from my husband because I had made all his friends uncomfortable. I made them look horribly indifferent to the suffering of other parents and children. They would beg the government to pay a ransom if their child were on the plane, but no ransom for other people’s children.

    The missionaries are someone’s child or father or mother or sister or brother. Pay the ransom as though a missionary is your child, or your father, or your mother, or your sister, or your brother. And then get every one of the hostage-takers even if it takes fifty years or more.

    Either that, or watch the men and women being beheaded on YouTube.
