  2. The sad thing is, this is only a sneak peak into the early stages of a climate gone bad due to short-term, poorly thought-out human “progress” and activity. One third of Americans are going through extreme climate right now, and it’s not even that bad compared to where we’ll be in a few decades. New Orleans went from these hurricanes happening once in a century to happening once every few years. Don’t forget Hurricane Katrina and Irma “recently”. The unfortunate thing is that we’re well past reversing the damage to our climate. We have spent so much time debating whether humans are changing our natural environment that the problem has quickly gotten out of hand. Putting up a solar panel and driving an ev won’t reverse the damage. And what’s worse is that climate change is still in its early stages. It’s a positive feedback loop, where a little change encourages a lot more change, so things will get much worse. It’s like lighting a match and throwing it on a single blade of grass. Every now and then, that generates a crazy wildfire. It’s not that we directly caused hurricanes and wildfires and extreme arctic blizzards in Texas, and such. No, all we had to do was “light a match”… start pumping heat trapping gases into the atmosphere slowly over the last two centuries, and just wait. I’m quite frustrated about this because, unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what we do: in the near term (maybe up to 2050 is what I’ve heard) climate distasters will get worse and more common. Our best bet right now is to start doing things that will give future generations a chance in the long term. But that requires entire governments to step up, which requires strong support for actual solutions to this problem. Metaphorically, someone started a wildfire with a single match. Now we need to figure out how to put it out. But in the meantime, our world’s gonna slowly go to hell. And most people don’t seem to notice, or care. Capitalism doesn’t work if our planet is inhospitable to life….

  3. 🌀 My Ida survival story 🌀
    Too late to evacuate,
Plus where would we all go?
In a short amount of time,
    What was a category 3 changed to a 4.
We tried to be prepared the best way we knew,
But no one could prepared for what we would all actually go through.
Beginning of it we were all okay,
Watching t.v as the winds made the trees sway.
    Than Ida became more aggressive,
Winds, rain, picking up speeds reckless.
Power went in out, kids became scared,
Son & youngest daughter, faces filled with tears,
Ceiling light fell, leaving pieces of debris to clean,
Leaving me & dad to take turns mopping up the leaks.
On top of the water from outside that began to creep,
From what had to be from all directions,
    In various different sections.
We managed & survived the hurricane,
Thankful we made it to see the next day.
Next day was sunny exposing the damage left,
With enough juice in my battery to text.
We are ok we made it, thank God for his grace,
Other Ida survivors texting back the same,
When will power be on, still left in the dark,
Even as I write this that question still has a question mark ❓
Looting & breakins every man for himself,
Leaving all stores close to home with nothing on their shelves.
Home feeling like a sauna, faces losing weight,
No hot meals, for us to put on our dinner plates.
Its crazy what you begin to miss when its all gone,
Just like you dont how strong you are until you gotta be strong.💪
    But strength comes with numbers,
Not gonna lie glad we had one another.
We lit candles and played card games,
Laughing at the funny jokes told, most lame.
After 3 days we finally had a warm meal thanks to pops,
Otherwise it was pb&j, can goods, water & soda pop.
Sis offered us to stay with her in the sunny state,
Offer I had no objective to take.
Gas was scarced, & the ones that had gas,
Lines were so long took 2 hrs to fill our tank.
But no complaints we made it,
Seeing my kids frowns turn to smiles,
Enjoying hot meals we didn't have in awhile.
Watching my 4 year old sleep peacefully,
Instead of her tossing & turning,
No more complaining about how her body was burning.
During the storm she was meditating,
Now she jumping in pool water with no hesitations,
These kids honestly are having, like a mini vacation,
Beyond grateful for my sisters act of kindness,
R.i.p to the lives that were lost, moment of silence 🙏

  4. I seriously HOPE that the government gives financial aid to help rebuild their communities this time, unlike Katrina, where they still have damage from 16 years ago!

Although, what am I saying.. this is the American Government we’re talking about, so unfortunately, this damage will probably affect people for the rest of their lives here. So sad.

  5. I big army salute to Matt Gutman who didn't just show up to report what he saw but actually helped people. You are what this country needs right now.

  6. In some parishes where there were bayou's that over flooded the people couldn't get out because the water had so many alligators in it which one man was killed by one after he tried to get out of his home.

  7. They stayed in defiance against evacuation orders ? Some people don't have a way to evacuate, no money and no where to evacuate too. It's not in defiance.

  8. SCREW AFGHANISTAN.
AMERICANS NEED HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT. THAT'S WHAT WE PAY TAXES FOR.
NO MORE MONEY TO THE MILITARY.
OUR FELLOW AMERICANS NEED HELP NOW.
