  1. Pit bulls should be banned from America. Most posts about pit bulls they are tearing people apart. Hitting the bear with a log is what saved this woman, not the pit bull.

  2. Its nice you helped your dog after it helped you. Buuuuuuuuut you shoulda got out of there or maybe pepper spray then run. Good dog. Brave human. Tough situation. If it comes down to it. My loved ones are taught to let the dogs intercept incoming threats and for them to retreat.

  3. I was hiking with my dog at the time, who was a big ole Bloodhound and we came around a corner with a bear right in the middle of the path staring at us. It was a huge black bear, I froze and my dog took off and treed the bear faster than I could even think what to do. He was a great dog, glad he didn't get hurt and I'm glad this lady was able to save her dog.

  4. Glad all are ok, this is terrifying. One thing though, bear spray isn't really meant as a long range deterent, unfortunately it has to up close.

  5. It seems to me that the dog might have been what the bear was actually after. Once it injured the dog and he ran away if he was after the woman he could have easily gotten her. Her beating a bear off her dog makes her the real hero in my eyes.

  6. This story reminds me of the character Ashley Williams from the Mass Effect Trilogy. In a scene from the first game, Williams was talking about aliens (which exist in this futuristic space game), saying that humans should always put themselves first. Williams made the analogy of being attacked by a bear, and that while you love your dog, you wouldn't hesitate to sick the dog on the bear so you can escape. I had always disagreed with the character's viewpoint, I had always always thought "no, I love my dog too much, I would at least try so that we both escape".

So lovely to see the love this woman had for her dog Bane, and that she risked her own life to save her dog's.
